Tail lights not working

Tail lights not working

Postby Jamie J on Mon, 05 Jul 2021 3:59 +0000

I need some help please guys, tail lights not working

I have had issues with the bulbs and moisture in the original lights so bit the bullet today and put in LED tail lights. Still no good. Check the obvious that the fuse is good and it hasn’t blown. Blinkers, brake and reverse lights work fine.

I have check the wiring all the way back to the fuse panel that the tail light fuse is in. I ran a wire from the battery to this wire with a 2 amp fuse and when I powered up the tail light wire the tail lights come on no dramas and it didn’t blow the test fuse so it can be shorted out.

The headlights are working fine but the instrument lights also don’t work (but the did come on when I powered up the tail light wire)

So who knows how the fuse panel jigger works and why isn’t it putting power out even though the fuse is fine

Try changing the fuse anyway, some fuses can look fine but still be shot.
The other thing is to buz out BOTH sides of the fuse holder and see if the fuse is getting a supply. If not then maybe check if the fuse panel is getting fed correctly or maybe there's a feeder fuse gone?
Let us know how you go with that lot and then we can move further if we need to.

Sounds like a back to basics kind of a job. Get the multimeter out and trace the problem.

When my trailer blew the fuse a took out the tail lights, it wasnt the tail light fuse. I cant remember which one but it was something related like the instrument panel fuse..?
I might be wrong.

In a very quiet place turning the tail light switch very slowly on and off can you hear a relay clixking on and off?
If so you know it isnt a switch problem or a primary side problem.
Find the relay and it will have a pin pattern written on the side of it, one side of the contact circuit should be live and if you bridge it to the other pin on the contact circuit the tail lights should light up.

Kind of drastic action to take if it's just a fuse
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.
