Hilux Odo Switch???

Hi guys, I am looking for a way to be able to turn the odometer on and off in my hilux 2007 model. The reason for this is in new zealand we have to pay for road user charges which only applies to diesel vehicles. The tax is measured in the km your vehicle has traveled. I spend a lot of time off road so I am paying for unnecessary road user charges. I have tried UN- plugging vehicle speed sensor but this puts vehicle into limp mode. Thanks in advance for help.

Good luck. Not only is it recorded on your odo, its also recorded in your ecu.

Maybe sensible and legal to just pay the road user charges.

Sneaky! I agree with hiluxxury. Or sell it and buy a petrol one.

If it was a VN Commodore I could tell you how to do it but I don’t know the Hilux well enough in that area to be of use or even if you could separate the dash and ECU pulse signals like you could with a VN-VS.

The vehicle speed sensor signal passes through the cluster first then goes to the Engine & Trans ECU.

If you tried to alter the pulse signal like with a speedo corrector module (which sits inline before the cluster) the ECU will think your going at that speed and will act/shift incorrectly.

That said, your better off buying another cluster and swapping them around when your going to clock up kms.
