UHF aerial cable joiner

UHF aerial cable joiner

Postby Spitfia on Sun, 27 Jan 2019 9:00 +0000

Hi all,

I need to remove my aerial from my old bullbar so i can fit a new one so i need to be able to cut my aireal cable and join it back together as it will be way too difficult to pull the cable back through from the radio wich is mounted in the roof.

Does anyone have a suggestion on the best method and parts used to cut ad rejoin the cable without any or with minimal signal loss and or interference from the loss of shielding

I'd use something like that and the male equivalents then heatshrink over the top, I cut and joined mine can't remember how I did it, think I just soldered taped the shit out of it then pulled the shielding back over and heatshrink. Makes no noticeable difference to how it works

As above just put two plugs on each end of the coax where you cut it and join with something like in the Jaycar link. Can't remember if it is RJ58 or 59 but it'll be on the cable, buy the appropriate plugs. You can buy them as a crimp type, buy you need a ratchet crimper with the right jaws, see below:

Here is a boot designed for such a joint:

Put a small cut in the bracket and slide the cable out and in.

Sorry Sir ;)
You are replacing the whole front and its too difficult to solder two cables together to get the new one through the firewall. Then there are two screws to remove the paneling next to the windscreen. Pull the old cable up there (the new will follow). and then get out the radio and pull on the cable.
The whole thing might be done within an hour and you dont have any plugs or joiner in the transmission way which pruduce always a loss in signal.

I dont know your car, but in mine I would do it the way I described.
Think about it and think about zip ties which might block the procedure ;)
