Dash lights dimming

Dash lights dimming

Postby quinny525 on Fri, 17 Aug 2018 5:14 +0000

Hey everyone, this morning driving to work my dash lights started going from bright to dim every 3 seconds and did this about 10 times. I have thought I had seen this happen a couple of times in the last year or two but was only one flicker that grabbed my attention so was never sure if I was seeing things.
Anyone had this happen or any ideas where to start. I did a pretty good search but could not see any other post on it.
Cheers

Yes I have 2013 and it does the same thing now and again
I have no idea what is causing it and the lights are in the off position.

SR5 ??? Are the lights in the on position (auto mode)
Likely the dash sensor is getting mixed messages. In front of the steering wheel is a little round ambient light sensor on the dash. When it goes from light to dark (over pass tunnel etc) the dash lights will dim (headlights come on) then go back. It pissed me off so I actually blacked it out from the inside so the lights always came on permanently (whoever got my car is probably scratching their head figuring that one out.)

The light switch is in the off position not in Auto mode on open road no Bridges nothing to interfere with Auto mode anyway which I don't use anyway

Then I’m outta options
I can’t remember if you cover it even in off mode does it mess with the lights?
I am not sure but I swear the new ones run off the gps sunrise setting in some way because I drive to work at dawn and it doesn’t all of a sudden get brighter but basically right on sunrise the dash lights get brighter.

Yes SR5 and I never use the auto position because it's not real good no matter what I adjust the sensor too.

This was happening in the dark when the dash dimmed on and off and I have also noticed that the 4X4 green light is comng on when starting her now also just for a moment, got the battery tested on Saturday and they said it was getting to the end of life but didn't thnk it would have anything to do with the dash dimming.

Did you get this fixed mate???
I have now seen something like this happen with a SR all lights were flickering like crazy in auto position. While in park. Put the ute in drive it went away. Turn lights on went away. Back to auto flicker was really really weird and no clue on a fix.

I had a similar problem with my 2016 sr, turned out to be the DRL globes, the 21w filament was blown but the 5w was ok iirc, caused all dash lights to flicker like crazy. So check the DRL bulbs...

Alternator packed it in a few weeks ago and I have not noticed it since...
