Ecu swap to add cruise control

Hi all, long time reader, first time post.
I have done a lot of reading to try find solutions, am hoping someone can help here.

I have fitted an sr5 ecu to my sr hilux, but it wont run.
I want to install cruise control on my 2008 kun26r hilux. Bought the stalk, installed, added appropriate wires etc (i had to run the wire from clock spring to e5-21, had to run the earth, had to wire in the clutch switch). Discovered the ecu didnt have 12v at e5-21 which meant my ecu was not compatible.
I purchased an ecu from a 2006 sr5. Plugged it in, wont run. Starts initially, but then immediately dies.
Followed instructions from another thread on here on coding the ecu to the security module (will copy and paste below) , but still does same thing. Re-installed original ecu, (wont run) Did the proceedure below and it runs again.

Any ideas why the sr5 ecu doesnt want to run in my 2008 sr?

I pm'd boxhead, but it looks like its been a few years since he was last active. Thought id try posting here incase someone else knows the answer

Regards
Daniel

Install your new computer. Have a know good start key.
Bridge pin 4 to pin 13 and turn the ignition on for half an hour. I leave it on for 45 min.
Turn ignition off remove bridge pin and if all went well it should start.

If you swap the old ecu back you also have to do that again.

Was the donor vehicle a euro3 model? If it was early 06 that might be your problem.

I am not sure what part of 06. The wrecking yard i purchased from said it was suitable from 05 right through to 2015 hilux.
Seems it may not be the case.

By your description it sounds as if the registration between the ecu and the transponder key ecu (immobiliser)
wasn't successful but you have proved your technique is correct by re-installing your original ecu and the engine starts. What is the part number on your ecu compared to the sr5 ecu.... same?

Philby,
Thanks for your comment.
The original sr ecu number is; 89661-OKC41
The part number on sr5 ecu; 89661-OK200

Does anyone know about flashing tunes from one ecu to another?
Would be good to flash a euro 4 tune onto the sr5 ecu i purchased.

Looks like my post went to cyber space...bugger
The 2006 sr5 came with either 0K200 or 0KC40 ecu. There was a change in injector and turbo stepper motor drivers which could explain why your engine starts then stops using the 0K200. This also is the exact symptom when registration is incomplete or unsuccessful. Your 2008 sr could have either 0KC40, 0KC41 or 0KC80 ecu. The difference between them will be firmware/software updates. The 2008 sr5 also came with the same ecu part numbers so one would presume that sr/sr5 are compatible once registered. Time to check with Techstream.
