The Fujitsu Ten Eclipse AVN726EA in my 2011 has free maps for life. It was dealer fitted though.

Have you ever updated them?

Yes, did it recently. Bit of a mission involving SD cars and cloning the unit in the vehicle but it works. The procedure is on the Eclipse website.

It might just be that model, as you highlight I found that one on the Eclipse website, but I have a 2013 SR5 with a PZQ60-00535 stereo unit; and that isn't listed on their website as having an update available. All the ones with an update available start with AVN that I can see. I would be very happy if you could point me somewhere to get a free update for my unit.

I am looking at getting the new ILX-107 when it is released by Alpine on 13 December 2017, apparently. For a $1,000 it has full Apple CarPlay interface, and operates wirelessly unlike previous versions of CarPlay. For really not much more than the map upgrade I think it is a relative bargain. I have CarPlay via a cable in my work car, although it won't do mapping outside of telephone reception thats what I have HEMA maps for on my iPad.

I have a garmin program that toyota europe link to for updates.... it tells me to take out the sd card and update it with the pc, but the toyota Aus manual says never to remove the SD card.

I can't help thinking this is just Toyota Australia being dicks again.

Does it have a DVD/CD drive hidden somewhere? This is how some Toyota and Lexus with factory fitment work. You just buy the latest CD, up to V23. I have to grab one for my Lexus soon.

I would love to see the stereo replacement once done, I am thinking about doing the same because I am not going to pay for map updates that will never be current anyway,
