I have a similar set coming for my rig, didn't want to get hid in h4 again as every brand I've used failed very quickly. Will see how the leds go.

Sorry for the stuiped question - but why do they require cooling fans when LED is supposed to use less power and be more energy efficient?

I don't think LED headlights have reached the point of being more efficient to do away without those little fans.

Halogens and HID don't require it. Jw speaker leds are the only ones I know that don't have any cooling fans hanging off them.

Probably using the wrong terms but I believe that the driver at the back of the led loses energy as heat, not the led itself. They need some cooling. Some brands e.g. Phillips just use heat sinks which is by far the best way to go as fans will be a problem in the long term. The Stedi HB3 one (high beam) doesn't seem to have a fan so maybe just the low beam models have the fan as they are expected to operate continuously.

Just a bit of tech back ground on the leds and fans. The led is a semiconductor junction and like all semiconductors they hate heat. This is why the fans. These fans are the best cooling system available and extremely reliable. In this application, whether it's a heat sink or fan, it is very important that we keep an eye on them and keep mud out. I have been using these for quite a while now and no trouble but would say that the price for the unit mentioned above is a bit steep.

Well.... How about that Light? Is the light anythibg better than a HID kit

I have a very similar kit in mine (H7's though, because of the two globe setup in depo's).

The light they give is on par with the lower wattage HID's, but they light up instantly, none of that giveaway flash and warmup when you turn them on. Not sure how they'd go in a factory reflector though.

You can get versions with just a heatsink (either fins or braided alloy webbing), and no fan, but they do get quite hot, so you'd want to make sure no wires are too close inside the housing.

The ones I got have fans, but they're completely waterproof, and you can only hear the fans if the engine is off, and you're standing in front of the car.

im looking at getting these.

these ones have a heat sink on the back with no fan.
i dont like the idea if a small fan in dusty conditions.

The Stedi option has claimed power consumption of 36w The JW Speaker option linked has claimed power consumption of only 25w.

IF (big if ) all things are equal, the Stedis, using approximately 40% more juice, should punch out more light. The higher power consumption may well be why the Stedis have fans.

If some one has the readys it would be interesting to put them side by side.

Got mine today.excellent clean white light. Still need to for a cruise later tonight but they seem good. they feel like quality aa soon as ya grab them out of the box which is nice and a three year warranty too! Here's the specs.

OK installed mine today, took all up 20 minutes, checked them out about an hour ago, and suffice too say im pretty impressed, went for a drive, no one flashed me , nice spread through factory reflectors, word of note, these are an incredible white light, Xenon like.

Fitted a set of J W Speaker HB3's this afternoon and unfortunately I consider them to be crap, hopefully the seller will offer a refund.

They are a high beam LED yes?

In what sense are they crap ? You have a 2016 SR5 I believe so have low beam led already.

So the Conversion high beams just not cut it for distance, output, quality in your opinion ??? I'm tossing up converting the HB3 but in the back of my mind think that Mr Toyota made the high beams halogen (not led) for a reason.

Sorry Creaky, I should have been more specific, light pattern is scattered and distance throw is far far less than what I expected for a $219 kit. The original halogen bulbs throw further and wider but as expected, not as intense as the LEDs.

I can't see how these LED's can be better than halogen as the actual LED light is thrown out sideways and rely on the reflective properties of the high beam internals. Could be wrong on that one but thinking logically ....

You say the light is scattered? R the bulbs adjustable. The ones I have are, you can turn the light in the mount by loosening a grub screw.
