Can anyone tell me were the loom under the dash is for the fog lights?

Sorry for the late reply

This Green/Black wire just needs to be connected to ground for the factory fog lights relay to turn on. I soldered on a wire and used a simple SPST switch.

Connect fog lights to OEM wiring/stalk

Postby emiloberg on Wed, 13 Jun 2018 3:16 +0000

Hi!

I'm trying to connect fog lights to my 2010 Hilux, but I need some tips.

  • Even though my Hilux never had fog lights connected, it has wiring from factory. There are two wires in a connector next to the headlights on each side. There's also a relay and a fuse in place in the box under the bonnet.
  • I have a fog lights switch on my turn indicator stalk. When rotating it, the dash indicator showing that the fog lights are on lights up. However, I get no voltage when connecting the fog lights or measuring the connectors.

So. The dash indicator shows that the fog lights are on, but no voltage is reaching them. The multimeter shows that the fuse is okay.

When turning on/off the fog lights, I can't hear that very specific "click" sound a relay makes, which leads me to believe that the relay isn't getting any juice.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated, if even "measure this", I'm pulling my hair here.

Are you sure the connectors are for foglights? They may be down below the lights in the bumpers.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Quite sure, but I can be wrong.

The wiring is below the headlights and the cable lengths are just about right to connect into the fog lights.

The wiring look much like this (Googled image from a RAV4, but mine is pretty much the same):

Here's a picture of my car, the brown connector is what I believe is the fog lights (and was the only connector that wasn't connected to anything)

What else can it be? All the "normal" lights (headlights, parking and indicator) are all connected.

Wrong section, this is for the 8th gen hilux.

Yes those are fog light connectors. The wiring, relay and fuse are all there. You just need to connect this wire to ground to turn on the relay:

Not sure about the stalk though as mine never had hit so i just added a switch.

Ouch, my bad. Admin; Feel free to move this to the Gen 7 sub-section.

Thanks for the pic! Connecting that wire to the ground should, in my case, be done via the stalk. I'm not sure it's applicable to my set up, as I want to use the stalk, if possible. But I'll have a look at how that's looking in my car and maybe it can lead me forward.

In a 2010 you should be able to fit the stalk that has the foglight switch built into it. Fit the missing relay and then the fog lights should work

I have the stalk with foglight switch. And the relay. But I'm not getting any voltage to the foglights. That's the problem I'm trying to solve ;)

The fog light switch provides ground path for the FOG relay coil and the positive side is coming from the headlight switch.

The headlight switch needs to be at least on the first click (clearance lamps) for the fog lights to turn on. This is so that the fogs turn off/on with the headlights and that you don't accidentally leave it running.

Try grounding that Green/Black wire first and see if the fog lights at least turn on. If that works then i can give you instructions on which wire/connector to jumper for the stalk switch to work.

emiloberg, flip9, hi guys - anyone confirmed you got this done?

Totally confused in exactly the same place this thread trailed off.

Are you disconnecting this B-G wire from 2J - 13 and just grounding it?

Many thanks in advance.
