ARB Canopy Interior Light

ARB Canopy Interior Light

Postby trentcoleman on Sun, 31 Jan 2016 12:42 +0000

Gday,
I just picked up a 2nd hand ARB canopy and just want to know where to know if there's a constant active at the tail light? Just so I'm able to use the interior light even when the cars off.
If not where abouts would the closest one be?
Cheers

When they come new they have a single wire you connect to the brake light and a length of 3mm twin core which you run all the way to the battery positive (with a fuse) and negative.

ARB tap into the tail light so the parkers are turned on for the light to works

I don't think ARB specify how they are wired its up to the installer. The lazy ones wire to the tail light and give bull excuses why its better. Having canopy's on all my utes for the past 30 years wire it to your battery.

hi hylux I did not like it at all.
that is why I fitted a fuse box and fitted led light strips in mine.
ARB fitted 2 things to my ute and stuffed it up both times so never been back again for fitting
fit it all my self then it is how I want it no one to blame but me

I hear you about ARB install quality, had same issues with screws through wires blowing fuses and trailer modules.
With the lights I left the standard one in but also put a led strip on the inside on the back window at the bottom, so when you have the window open its lights up everywhere around the back of the ute. Just put another switch on the other side of the interior light

Ive recently just bought a 2nd hand arb canopy, how did you ended up wiring in the brake light and interior light. Looking for somewhere that sells the cable or if theres a wiring harness i can buy?

Cheers

Rko. If it's just an arb classic canopy there are 3 wires running from the lights. One lenght of 3mm twin core that goes from the interior light directly to the battery and one small single wire that goes down to the live brake light wire behind the tail light. Jope that helps.

The one that was on mine when I bought it tapped into the 7pin trailer wiring loom for the light power.

Purely comes down to the installer and if they follow the instructions or not.
Arb say to run positive to the front directly to the battery.
Brake should be direct to the tail light. But 7 pin would work too. Both work and in some vehicles you have to do it a certain way.
Thankfully Hilux is simple and you can tap into nearly any circuit without throwing a fault code.
Not like the ranger, Amarok and Colorado etc that you have to be careful what you touch.
