Factory Cruise Control for SR D4D Auto

I made the mistake of buying a 2011 Hilux that was advertised as having cruise control but it didn’t. The dealer basically said suck eggs, my fault for not noticing it before buying. Being mad keen to have cruise I bought the stick and put it in but it’s a no go. My ecu is 89661-0kq60 and its a manual transmission - KUN26R-PRMDYQ3 . Anyone know if my ecu is preset to run the cruise? Do I need to run an extra earth wire from the clock spring plug behind the steering wheel? Any tips would be great thanks.

2011 Hilux Manual - By what I can tell all the wiring and switches are there needed for my cruise control.

I have installed a main controller switch but nothing works. My list of probable fault causes are as follows:

1: Cruise Control Main Switch is faulty: Bought secondary test switch.
2: Cruise Control Main Switch may need earthing. Will earth from behind the clock spring.
3: Input from manual transmission switch is not present.
4: ECM not compatible.

So did anyone have any luck with this. I have a 2010 manual sr dualcab. Keen as for cruise control. Especially if it's the factory switch on the steering wheel

I have bought and installed the cruise control switch but I think I need to run a separate earth wire before it will work. I will let you know how that goes and post a photo if it works.

My cruise control now works. It just needed an earth wire. I bought two cruise control switches because I thought the first one didn't work but discovered I only had to run an earth wire so if anyone one wants a cruise switch I have one for sale $29.

The wire is attached to the point behind the steering wheel cover. There is a plug with two rows of six points. I earthed the second from the left on the bottom row. It's a white wire with a black stripe. I would upload a pick but not sure how.

The earth wire on mine needed to be connected to the white wire with black stripe behind the steering wheel then to any earth point on the car body. I poked a wire into the socket beside that wire and taped it but it would be better to go to JayCar and get a proper splice clip.

I poked the earth wire into the socket next to that black/white wire and then taped it. It would probably have been better to have gone somewhere like JayCar and got a proper splice clip.

hmm. don't quite understand here.

you used that blue dumb thing to "tap" into the white/black one? then ran the tapped wire to ground?

god damn, i feel like an idiot here :)

or did you cut it. and then use a clip like that and run it to ground?

and if you did the like the last one i described. did you ground the part wich came out of the steering wheel or the parts that comes from the ecu/(or dash or whereever the white/black one comes from)

I have sold my spare leaver.

I bought two of them because the first one didn't work until I realised I only needed to run an earth wire. They both came from China and I got one from Aliexpress and the other from ebay. Its a popular item - Cruise Control Switch For Toyota Matrix Tundra Sequoia 4Runner 84632-34011

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261808065069

I could't find a cover plate and I plan to cut a hole in mine.

Running the earth wire is the only trick to the operation.

Good luck

yes, i've understood that about the earthwire. but where does it connect?

ofcourse to the black/white cable. but there are two ways of doing it :)

and i don't want to try if i can end up frying the ECU or something

cut the black/white and run which end of it to ground?

the end that comes FROM the steering wheel, or the end that comes from the harness?

Both, but it may not work. The blue connector in the picture above is just a way to tap the black/wht wire. You could just as easily skin back some insulation on the wire and solder a wire to it and run it to a ground point. If your Hilux doesn't have the correct ECU nothing you can do but add an add on cruise control.

how do i know if i have the correct ECU then?

the only thing i've got to go after is that it has a "cruise control" section when i log into the ECU

nothing happens when i enter it tho.

about that groundwire. it seems odd to me that you have to add a ground in series

Hi guys i have 09 sr d4d manual dual cab. I cant seem to find any existing wiring for cruise control. Well cant see none for the clutch switch. I havnt taken the airbag off to see if the is a spare plug for the cc leaver. Can anyone shed some light on what models had the pre existing wiring for cc. Or the cheapest way about getting it now
