Hi everyone, Im keen to put a optima blue D27 or Red top 34 in direct replacement of the genuine battery in the Lux
( 2011 KUN26 3.0L ) Having a closer look at the terminal and wiring setup, im thinking I may not have enough slack in the cables to fit the optima in, can anyone tell me what optima type they have as a starting battery, or issues with the cable lengths on fitment of the optima. Im keen on the D27 but im worried the the cables wont reach the optima terminals... Thanks

Mate I'd go one of the yellow top series. They are a glass mat cranking and deep cycle battery suitable for starting and accessory purposes. When the engine is off you can still run accessories, as long as you don't flatten it. Great for four wheel drives. The ideal choice in fact. I have used them in the past.
Cheers.

Disagress with that completely-

The red one should be used for starting duties as the others are dual purpose ones / mixed use and not dedicated for starting the car over and over etc... Ideally you would have a different brand with decent amp hours as the second battery for use with fridges, led work lights etc The blue and yellow top are absolutely rip off considering the amp hours they provide and not ideal for an aux battery.

I will be going a d27yellow/blue soon for my main battery, I have had a few good experiences with these batteries. Either one will start your hilux no prob, I had a d34m in my old work boat that started a big old diesel no problem.

I don't trust ah ratings that some manufactures give, my d27 aux definitely outperforms the 105ah century? Marine battery I had before it.

Ask yourself, why do they make different types?

Use the battery made for the job you want it to do, you have the space for 2 batteries so you do not need to compromise with a duel purpose battery. Theoretically the battery made specifically for starting will last a lot longer than a duel purpose battery doing mainly starting. If you are going to spend the money for reliability spend it on the right product or you may as well buy a cheap lead acid cranking battery.

I know plenty of people that have had a good run out of "Full River" deep cycle batteries. It is what I am going to put in as my secondary battery in my Hilux.

Yeah I have had a few full river Deep cycle batteries in the past, I carnt say anything bad about them, from memory I have had 3 of them for running fridges ect.. most of the "DC" Series of the full river have last me out to around 4 - 5 yrs.. well worth the money I reckon

Just be weary of the weight of the second battery if mounted under the bonnet, not such a problem if you don't get onto corrugations but there isn't a deal of strength where the kit holders attach. But this is getting too far removed from this thread topic, been covered well enough in other threads.

When you ring Optima they will say the D27F yellow top is the one they recommend for the cranking battery. I foolishly believed Autobahn who said the red one. I think from memory you'll find the terminals are just too far away from the factory loom.

The Jeep Wrangler comes with yellow Optima and they are awesome stuff. Expensive but great! Fully recommended! Previously had 2 Jeeps for good years!

You will need to re-jig pos and neg terminals to suit the posts which are located on the opposite side to the original battery.

I have a yellow top only because I scored it for a bottle of rum. 55 ah 750 CCA. Working ok for cranking purposes.

As stated above you do not use for crank battery for accessories. I'm an elec and could preach for hours about different set ups etc but there is plenty of info on the net. Do some research.
