Had a caravan conected that had been on there for the last 1000kms.
Service manager blamed the van for the fault. Said when you put it into reverse thats when everything went bad.
Also questioned who wired the tow bar (same dealer) and removed (cut) an extra wire?

Telling lies I think..

Would you think its the 10amp fuse under the bonnet or steering colum?

Thanks

steering column and i was also towing at the same time also
all you need to do is pull out fuses and check them if you're not sure it doesn't hurt anything
If they all good then put it back in but from memory its 10 amp and second from top
mine was going into goulburn and lucky for me toyota helped me out straight away
pull off cover below steering wheel and have a looksie

I am currently having a similar problem. Have checked all the fuses and they are all clean and complete. It only happens on hot days above 30 deg and when the windows are up.

Does anyone know if there is like a temperature sensor or maybe an hot electronics safety mode it goes into? Starts fine, have to power shift to get it out of park, engine light comes on. Drivable but no electrics, gauges, lights... after about 2-3 minutes of idling with the doors wode open it seems to possibly cool down enough to fire the electrics back up.

Have plugged it into a computer but the only faults it shows is gear sensor (which I am assuming is when I powershift) and vehicle speed error (which I am assuming is when I tried to deive it without the gauges). Had a small time auto sparky have a poke around but he couldn't find the problem.

Any more info woild be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

My Car does this only when I hook up to 1 certain tandem trailer with electric brakes, when I go into reverse and press the brake pedal every time it blows the ECU fuse under the steering wheel. I know its the trailer wiring not my cars trailer plug so I just don't use the brake when reversing or disconnect the lead. And yeh that fuse takes out all the windows, A/C, fan, instruments etc.

It just occurs to me that it's bad design having a ECU fuse go on a bad trailer...

The way I'd like to have my trailer:

1 nice fused (~40A should do) 12v to the back.
tap steering wires from all lights needed.
use these steering wires to steer sold state relays that throw 12+ to the corresponding pin on the socket.
One might have one of the rear lights and a brake light over a 2nd 12V line + fuse to for safety.

Most made mistake is having the socket upside down forced in.

If you would connect this the other way around (which fits apart from a tiny plastic thingy) would basically put 12V directly to ground when you hit the brakes. This is why it is so important to check the left / right indicators seperately. Alarm lights will work 'the other way round' but blinking left wil blink right on the trailer. You then know the plug is likely upsidedown.

If you don't have the foglight on, a non functioning RH Taillight might also be an indicator.

Hi sorry for resurrecting an old thread and for this being my first post.

I bought a 2010 Hilux invincible 3.0 about 6 weeks ago, the battery light came on last week and I had it diagnosed as possible alternator fault. Had the alternator changed today and sorted the battery light issue BUT.... we now have the issue of no air con indicators stereo windows brake lights etc. The garage found a popped fuse and changed it and told me it was all sorted. I drove it home and turned it off, went back out later and all those issues were back, went for a drive and after shutting it off for 10 mins turned it back on and all was fine again. Drove home turned it off and on and off again and all working. Went out about a hour later to try it and the problems were all back again!

Dose anyone know what could be causing this, I’m going to contact the garage again tomorrow but think it would be useful if I can point them in the right direction so they don’t just try something that gets it going and then the same issues arise when I’ve driven away!

Again sorry for this being my first post on this forum but in desperate need of help!!!

Cheers . Rob.

Dont take it to a garage, go to an auto sparky. Dont try to tell them what to do based on guesses on here, they are usually very good at forming their own plan of attack based on the symptoms you give them.

Yeah I think I might have to if they can’t sort it out although since they seem to have caused the issues I would like for them to try to rectify it first. I saw the second post on this thread said about the electrical problems from the op were possibly due to alternator replacement so wondered if they could divulge on this. I checked the ecu ig fuse in the footwell and it wasn’t blown but I’m no expert when it comes to vehicle electronics!

For anyone who wants to know what I did to solve the problem it was getting a new master fuse. All other fuses were ok.

Thanks for the follow up, most dont bother. Interesting to see how it goes, a fuse blowing after time running ok usually means there is an intermittent short which c a n be a bastard to find.
