Hello all fellow Hilux owners ! i have just purchased a 2010 Dual Cab SR which has the USB plus MP3 plug. The sound of the stereo is very average and i have found it has no speakers in the rear doors. Without wanting to change from the Factory stereo can any one advise the best way to fit Speakers in the rear doors, if the wiring is there from the factory for rear speakers, and what brand/ size etc i should bye to make this better ?? Thank you Jarvo

Hey there all.
I've just replaced the factory head deck in my 06 SR5 (cd and mp3 only) & was wondering if any body knows what the other 2 plugs in the back of the unit are for? I don't have any extra wiring behind the dash and I don't have steering wheel controls.

I have a 2015 and saw the service guy connect the GPS antenna. There are sa few RCA type jacks on the back of the head unit and are labeled with their function. There's a set to connect another monitor like TV screens for the back seats, and a single one for Video In. Once you pull out the unit, I'm sure it's hard to miss.

Edit: I think the model years are not in sync across the ocean. The 2015 here is the last of the generation. Not the "all new" model that starts the next generation. :)

New to the forum so Hello to everyone.

I have a Hilux 2012 which didn't have any Sat Nav. I decided to purchase an aftermarket android system. I started to install it but it's not so straight forward. Can anyone help to identify what each of the plug sockets are on the back of the stock unit.
Image

Knowing what these are may help me to install the new android unit.

The one in the bottom left of this picture has a bunch of cables going to it but the new unit doesn't have a connector to plug it into.

Any advice appreciated.

Dave.

Edit: After the weekend researching this it seems the SWC wires are in the 28-pin connector on the left in the picture and the stock reverse camera wires in the 16-pin on the right. Any help on the pinouts/wire colors would be a great help.

Final question, anyone know what the empty socket is for?

Edit 2: I decided to contact the seller of the new android head unit. It turns out the wrong adapter harness was supplied. I've seen the picture of the correct one they are sending out and it looks to have all the correct plug sockets for a proper plug & play. The only part still outstanding is for the stock reversing camera on the 16-pin connector, but that should be easy to sort.

Please help

Salazar, can you please post up a bit about yourself in the introduction area as you'll find you get better responses if people know a little about you.

There's a fair bit of discussion on this already and as such your post was merged into one of the more technical threads. Within this thread there are a number of great links that will help you out.

Threads merged.

You need a bot that merges threads based on a percentage of key words used. Would save you a lot of housekeeping

G'day guys just wanted to share my experience of installing my new stereo and hopefully help someone out should they need it. My ute is a 2011 SR. I've kept the factory head unit, installed a clarion amp under the front passenger seat, relocated the existing front speakers to the back, replaced the front with Hertz 210w woofers and smaller tweeters with the cross overs. Overall it was a big job, it took just over a day. I ran all new wire except the rear speakers as the factory plugs were just too irresistible. For connecting the amp to the head unit I didn't use any plugs I just spliced into the existing wires. I could do this because I ran all new wires to the speakers, better sound too. As the amp was under the seat I did use the existing RL speaker wire (which changes colour mind you) to connect to the head unit.

Overall I'm extremely pleased with the outcome. The sound quality is a massive improvement and it is set up for a future rear speaker replacement and head unit. I would recommend this to anyone looking at doing a cheap upgrade.

A few points on reflection. Splicing into the head unit wires was very daunting to start with but I used a document someone posted earlier which really helped. When I started the job I initially thought it was too big and confusing but I just started on the front left and slowly chipped away and it gradually didn't seem so big. I mounted the little tweeters on the rear view mirror covers and they look pretty sh!t hot too!

When I turn it up loud I've now got the car rattling with the bass, though that might actually be my bad reinstall :oops:

Hi all,

I'm doing some research on installing a Joying double din android unit, into my Toyota Hilux 2012 SR5.
Their Toyota wire harness will apparently work with everything BUT the steering wheel buttons.

I have looked online and have worked out that I need to find the two steering wheel wires that transmit the variable voltage signal, for when the butttons are pressed.
The problem is that I haven't been able to get 100% confirmation on which two wires these are.

Image

I am guessing from this handy diagram, that the plug I need to look at is 'CN6', and guess the wires will be Pin 21='SW1' & Pin 22='SW2'

Is anyone able to help me out with this? I really want to know that I can keep using my steering wheel buttons, if and when I upgrade my head-unit.

Cheers

Hey guys

Sorry to dig up an old thread. I recently installed a Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT head unit in my 2011 SR5 and wanted to share the pinouts as it was hard to find online.

The unit has an inbuilt steering wheel encoder, so you don’t need to bother with the AERPRO harness which is about $100 retail. The unit comes with a ‘patch lead’ which is the 2mm headphone jack type connector with three wires out of it. You just need to connect these three wires to the right factory harness in the dash. For simplicity I just purchased a harness to plug the head unit straight into the toyota harness so as to save soldering etc. once I’d done that there was only one plug left, with purple, blue red and white wires. The purple is a speed related output - not required. The blue is your steering wheel ground, red SW1 and white SW2.

Once connected you have to turn your AV sources off, then program the steering wheel controls from the settings menu, which is simple and self explanatory.

For $600 including the reverse camera I’m stoked with the head unit. It has Android and Apple Car Play, so you can use navigation app from your phone, dictate SMS and use Siri/Google to control music etc. not sure there’s a 4wd maps app that’s compatible yet, but I figured it will be at some point or I’d just get a stand-alone VMS unit for $299.

rodw wrote:Guys,

Seeing I worked this out today, I thought I would post it up because it is handy to know. Pinouts are based on looking at the front side of the plug that clips into the radio with the clip "XX"in the diagram facing up.
Code: Select all
-------------XX--------------
1    3            7    9
2    4   5    6   8   10
-----------------------------

 1 = Right Front Speaker + (White)
 2 = Right Front Speaker - (Blue)
 3 = Left Front Speaker + (Pink)
 4 = Right Front Speaker - (Purple)
 5 = Earth (Brown)
 6 = No Connnection
 7 = + 12 Volt Accessory (Grey)
 8 = No Connnection
 9 = +12 Volt Battery (Blue/Yelow Stripe)
10 = +12 Volts Dash Lights (Green)

The small connector facing the same way looks like this:
Code: Select all
---------XX---------
1   3    4    5
2             6
--------------------
1 = Right Rear Speaker + (Red)
2 = Right Rear Speaker - (White)
3 = No Connection
4 = No Connection
5 = Left Rear Speaker + (Black)
6 = Left Rear Speaker - (Yellow)

Note that I did not test the Rear speakers as my Rig is a SR that does not have them and I am not bothering with Rears when I get my Amp in.

Finally worked this out!!
