Hello, just want to know if anyone else has had my problem.... I have a 2012 sr5 Hilux and I am installing new speakers and amp. I pulled my factory head unit out to locate the speaker wires and power/ground/remote. I disconnect the wiring harness from the head unit and started to strip back the wires to solder the the new ones onto them and the 12v constant power hit the ground wire causing a spark and now I have no 12v power only remote power. I have checked my fuses and they all seem to be fine. Can anyone help out with some info or should I just take it to the auto elecs?
P.S.
12v power wire (blue/yellow trace)
Ground wire (brown)
Remote wire (silver)

You are not very clear. The remote power is turned on by the head unit itself so there would be no power on the harness when unplugged. Have you installed the head unit when testing?

I can't see how a short with head unit disconnected would break the remote power.

I still have my remote power but no 12v power. When the harness is plugged into the head unit I only have power at the remote which I thought was power after the ignition was turned on.

There are three incoming power wires. One is constant 12 volt from the battery and is the main circuit. The other is wired to accessory ignition switch. The third is for dash lights. The HU draws constant power all of the time to keep its memory and when the key is turned to ACC, it receives power to tell it to wake up but the main load comes from the battery wire.

I should have checked my original diagram at the start of this thread.

A normal head unit has a remote signal for the amplifier which the Toyota HU does not appear to have. Usually when the HU is switched on, it switches power via the remote wire to the amplifier to tell it to turn on. In the absence of a remote signal wire from the head unit just wire the amp remote terminal to accessory power but remember it will be consuming power if you set the key to ACC and the head unit is off.

So to test your harness, with no headunit fitted, grab a test light, connect it to a known good earth and check the wires for 12 volt battery power, power when the ignition is turned to ACC and Power on the dash light circuit on the appropriate pins. If you have a problem, go looking for the fuses.

this should help. I wired my amp remote behind the fusebox under the steering wheel on my 2012 hilux as it was just easier.

I just filled in some missing connections. To switch on a remote Amp, connect the "Remote On" from the Amp to terminal 8. The problem is the slide on connectors are not freely avalable and I had to modify mine. My Sub is now part of the roof console.

There still will be a fuse blown somewhere of you have no power. You got some in the main fuse block area some under the bonnet and some up under your dash just to the left of steering wheel column. Check these

Any size. 4" to 10" just depends on how much cutting you want to do.

I fitted a switch to randomly switch +12V to the reverse signal, fitted a camera up front and can select between front and rear camera via switch or reverse selection. Works realy great!

Hey Johan,

How did you work the wiring for the switch? Looking to put a reverse camera (tailgate) + camera input for trailer/boat/caravan.

I'd like to be able to change the input (i.e. hilux or trailer) and also be able to trigger the camera as manual or automatic (i.e. switch to turn selected camera on or default to reverse) but without affecting the reverse when using manual selection.

Any hints would be great. Did you use a genuine camera or wiring adapter?

to do that you will need to use 2x diodes, connect the stripe sides together and connect the striped sides to the stereo.
one diode gets power from your revers light and one diode gets power from a switch to activate the camira without activating the rev lights.

Good thread, great info from all. Would be great if people could use other posters quote post, so we can see what answer goes with what question! Lol

My new dvd radio loses radio presets every time ignition turned off, but remembers to pair my phone thru BT, and remembers the last radio volume. Dash lights work as they should. Radio turns off when ignition turned off but radio doesnt turn on automatically when ignition turned on.
Any ideas anyone. Much appreciated.

Btw, supercheap and autobarn have ISO to std hilux large and small male plug for connecting most radios wirh ISO plug. The harness had hilux plugs as per first original post, to two ISO plugs, one black and one brown that suit the radios. They are bout 20 bucks. Makes plug and play swap for power and speakers for std hilux set up.

So i figured out my own problem!!
Seems either the joining adaptor harness i bought from supercheap, or the plug supplied with the radio had the 12v battery and 12v ignition wiring swapped. I simply swapped the wires at the ISO plug, plugged it all together and tested it and all worked!
Hope this might be useful for someone else. :-)

Can anyone tell me where to find the reversing camera cable at the rear of the of the toyota hilux sr5 2012? It's a purple with a red strip on it, I have checked out both sides of the tail lights and the tow bar wiring looms but no purple with red strip cable.
Any help with hooking up the reversing camera will be appreciated! =)
