2014 sr to -2013 sr radio conversion dramas

Postby Gop510 on Thu, 05 Feb 2015 7:34 +0000

Hi all, this is my first post so bear with me, firstly I have thoroughly searched but had no luck, so,
I have fitted a head unit and surround from a new hilux sr to my early pre update 2013 sr. It's the same head unit as the photo at the start of this thread viewtopic.php?t=21180.

Issue I'm having is I've lost Bluetooth phone capability as the head unit is designed for the roof mounted external microphone and my car doesn't have one. I'm happy to purchase one but unsure if it will work out. I was hoping the wiring would be there but it too is not. I'm unsure if one of the ports on the back of the radio can be used for external mic. Also don't know if the loom from the roof to head unit is a seperate loom or part of the main interior wiring loom. Toyota parts couldn't confirm either. Part number on the back of the rad is 86140-ok351 BL900130 . Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers
John

It is part of the map light wiring harness and there are two section. The unit will not work until you plug the chip of the mic into it. From memory it is a 4 wire system to the chip in the roof. Toyota call it the mic ecu. And then 2 wires from the ecu to the mic.
Like I said no mic = no phone operations.
I would be expensive as I know when you fit a overhead consol you have to modify the wiring. One shop got it wrong and killed the ecu. It was like 250 bucks. They did a lot of complaining

Good luck. Possibly your best bet is a wrecked on at a wreckers.

So I'm looking toward finding a roof console with mic from a 2014 sr5 2nd hand and purchasing the harness from toyota, they list 2 part numbers shown as roof wire, one pre 11/13 and one post. Obviously I'd need the post 11/13. Just not sure where it plugs in at the radio end

I was planning on using the external mic (FSTP-011) that has been mentioned in other threads, regarding fixing mic issues in previous model head units.. do you know if it would work boxhead or would I have to get the mic that is specific to the '14 model head unit?

also you can trick the head unit into thinking a mic is connected by jumping the earth wire on the stereo harness to the mic detection pin, I have done it and have bluetooth connectivity now, so I can stream my music but until I can find a mic, I can't use the phone features! I can get a brand new map light/sunglass console with the mic for under $200 through a contact of mine, Toyota wants over $200 for the mic alone! With the mic, it would be pretty simple extend some wires from the mic to the corresponding pins on the head unit
