Rear wiring loom fusing

Postby Bazb on Sat, 08 Jul 2017 8:55 +0000

Has anyone had problems with the wiring loom from the rear tail light running towards the front of the vehicle fusing or melting?
I have a 2011 SR5 and the first indication of a problem was no brake lights.
Looked at the 10amp fuse and it was blown.
Put a new one in and it also blew immediately
Then the hand brake light came on and other dash warning lights
After lots of investigation the left hand tail light wiring loom has rubbed though the insulation by the car body and the wires have fused in the loom. The fusing goes a long way up the loom towards the front of the vehicle.
This appears to be the issue.
I am stuck in Broome at the moment with Camper and no electric brakes etc
Any suggestions apart from a new loom
Thanks

Common issue
Splice new wire into the abradded part of the loom
Broome will have electrical supplies like solder, shrink tubing , protective conduit etc for the job.

Hilux 2007 Electrical Issue.

Postby KenL17 on Sun, 01 Oct 2017 6:09 +0000

Hello,
I have a Hilux dual cab 2007 5SP/M diesel KUN 16 R Model and it keeps blowing dash/tail lights fuse. Could anyone help me with troubleshooting this please? I have changed the fuse 2 times, use the lights (on the steering column) several times to check, they work, then it blows the fuse.
Thank you.

Tray or ute back? If its a tray check the wiring hasn't been jammed by a stone or whatever. Same goes for the towbar wiring!

Hi Guys.
Thanks for the feedback & added thread.
It is a tray back. The brake fuse just went also. I checked all rear lights connections & changed all rear bulbs & replaced the appropriate fuses. All is working now. There are a couple of other little coincidences related to this also, but see how it goes. DeadlyBeast, could I PM you please? need help to identify part on motor relating to something else.
Thank you all, appreciate it.

Hi Ken.
Great things are working again.
Feel free to pm. Chances are that the information is on a thread in the engine section so feel free to use the search function that has "search here!" To the right of the box

I'm a fan of waterproof heatshrink for this type of thing, but if you can't find it some dielectric or silicone grease rubbed over the joint will help the heatshrink seal and keep moisture out
