Ctek battery charger

Ctek battery charger

Postby Davo_SSV on Tue, 11 Nov 2014 4:18 +0000

I'm looking to get a ctek 250s battery charger for my dual battery set up. Can anyone tell me if my ute would have the smart alternator and therefor need the additional relay to function properly?
It's a 2010 model sr5 extra cab. From memory it's an early 2010 build...

I think the smart alternator is in vehicles like the ranger and bt-50, I think the Hilux is just a normal alternator, hence they leave space under the bonnet for a second battery... they know their customer base :D

Opposite lock installed a ctek 250s dual battery set up in my 2014 sr5 today, and they made no mention of it needing an additional relay to function properly.

Interested to know what a rough price is considering I just ordered one today for 290 including express freight and freight insurance and will be installing myself.

Cheers

Ultra,

there is a photo in my build thread if you want an idea on how they squeezed it all in there.

Cheers mine is going in the toolbox on the back though because I'm running a 120 ah battery and I want to keep the charging unit cool.

Cheers

Edit: I actually think my battery won't even fit in the normal space under the bonnet. Also I'm looking in the future to put a solar panel on top of the toolbox and wire it in.

Just had a look at your dual battery Bob. Looks very neat, I'd have to do alot of rearranging to even think about fitting mine in there and as I said before I'm not even sure mine would fit. I've got all my relays and breather outlets in that corner of the engine bay.

2014 will require a relay. The c-tek info will give you how you need to wire it. Redarc has a nice wiring diagram on their website as well. I'll see if I can find it.

Hi, thanks for that, I had seen the diagram but some sellers of the ctek have different opinions.I guess any good relay would do, I haven't come across any specified unit. Good one regards Bill

Why do you need a relay anyway?

Hi Jersey,I don't know,I haven't read anywhere why,I can only assume it is because of the solar/ alternator input.I am open for more info. I only want to do it once.Regards.

That wiring diagram looks to me as if the relay is only used when the ignition is off, or when the smart alternator is putting out a low voltage, to switch to solar.

I have the ctek in my 2014 Hilux and I do not have a separate relay.
