Well hopefully, here is a link to my installation which I covered in my Rod's New Rig thread
http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1406&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=70

The full thread is here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1406&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

For interest, the first link I clicked on the URL button and pasted the link in, the second I just pasted the link in so they look different...

installing uhf

There are quite a few posts on here - best to do a search.
I suppose it depends on what radio you have. I've got a GME TX3440, with the main body installed under the dash above the passengers feet, and the handpiece on a bracket that come out from the radio.
The bracket was Rod's idea, read the following topic

Our HF and UHF radio is mounted in the center console storage bin under the arm rest, out of sight from people who think they want my radio's more then I do!

Hi I have a TX 3400, mounted the user control unit lower dash, you cannot see any holes in dash panel unless you pull it off & turn it over I also reinforced it inside, if I removed it nobody would ever know & remote unit fitted above right hand kick panel,no trouble to hear inbuilt speaker, from there.Have a picture of user control unit on my profile, will post a picture of remote unit when I work how to do it on this new site, when I can get my head around it .CHEERS :?

When I said I dont use it, I was refering to the ashtray.. I dont smoke so therefore have no need to get at it.. the UHF remote head sits right in front of the ashtray opening. So even if I wanted to use the ashtray.. I could not.. Cheers TOMUCH

Behind the panel with the power outlet, lighter socket and the 2 spare spots.
Brought the mike cable out through the finger hole on left side in the panel below the steering wheel an onto a CLICON bracket
to thr left of the heater aircon controls.
Done the same to both our SR5s.

I've got a GME TX3440 with a detachable face. The unit is pushed into the kick panel on the passenger side. The power is from the cigarette lighter, an external speaker is placed under the dash panel that you remove to get to the fuses and the head unit is double sided taped to the top of the steering column. I'm going to fit a roof console so I didn't want to mount anything, but the head unit is in a fantastic spot to change channels and see the numbers. The mic sits in the slot next to the radio.

P.S. Picture of the head unit on the steering column in my garage photos.

I have a TX 3440 UHF and i have installed it above the passengers feet with the hand piece coming out through next to the gearstick. Inbetween the carpet and plastic console, then i wrap the coil around through the transfer & gearbox sticks and it sits there fine. I hate the look of holes in the dash therefore i was not going to mount it.
