Cost effective Head Unit Upgrade (2005-2011 SR/SR5)

I bought exactly the same harness adapter (PZQ60-00151) and not sure how you got the radio to work as there is no adapter for the older style aerial plug that I can make out? There seems to be a great deal of extra wiring with it too... any idea what that is for?

I am in the same situation as you Roberto124. I got two wiring harnesses from Toyota to see if i could fix the situation. No such luck getting the steering controls to work. The parts guy gave me the number for the dude that does all their stereo upgrades for after sales cars. I am gonna get on to him tomorrow arvo and see if I can get some advice. For a quick search on google I found people and other forums saying that you need a part that costs $140.00. Gonna try this other dude before I do anything else. Will post back here when any new info asap.

Ok have worked it out. You need to get harness PZQ60-00141 about $20
It will convert the 20 pin plug to a 28 pin plug giving you steering wheel control. It also has the reverse activation wire . There is a speedo sensor wire and a hand brake wire (I didn't use either)they are for navigation if you have it.
You can get the antenna adapter from JB HIFI they can order it from Stinger Australia. It all works a treat. 15-20min to do the lot.

What year/trim model are you putting this into? Obviously I didn't have this problem because I don't have steering wheel controls. The guide was for the 2008/9 model.

Let me know what year etc it is and I'll add a warning in the guide.

Are you guys using an external mic for your head unit or is it built in , was talking to a mate who installed an ELINZ ? unit and was happy with all the functions but did say the built in mic was on the LHS of the unit ( made for US market) and his voice quality suffered because of it ?

If you want good handsfree, look for a unit that has 'Parrrot" bluetooth. They seem to work the best

I'm using an external mic which came with this headunit I bought a few weeks ago...
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/car-sound-gps- ... ku-459279/

The mic plugs into the back of the headunit, so I just ran the mic up under the steering column and stuck it next to the steering wheel with the supplied double sided tape, works a treat!

I'm using my 10" Samsung tablet for maps and it connects to the headunit via bluetooth, and also my phone for data. I couldn't justify spending a heap of money on a double din screen type unit. This way I can use my tablet outside the car too.

I am just using the built in mic. Had no issues at all. Just need to make sure you have the windows up to reduce background noise and talk at the head unit. It is a billion times clearer than using the speaker on my iPhone.

ScubaDooba wrote:The unit pictured doesnt have nav ability. For this functionality you will have to look at the model up from this one. Model number you are looking for is PZQ60-0053x (x being number between 1 and 5 which apparently relates to the colour of the illumination). The unit I had in my Hilux was a PZQ60-00535 (green).

Expect to pay substantially more than $300 for one of these units too. Direct from Toyota as an upgrade I think they are (over)priced at something over $2200.00 !

Where exactly did you find this information regarding the illumination colour?

I would like more info on the model numbers,

Thanks.

HI,
anyone can tell me how to wire up the steering wheel controls.
The old Toyota radio has a 16 pin plug, the new Toyota radio has a 28 pin plug.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
