Auxillery Power Without Key?

Auxillery Power Without Key?

Postby Richard on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 9:58 +0000

Apart from hard wiring the cigarette lighter and auxillery outlet to the second battery, is there any other way of running these two supplies whilst there's no key in the ignition?

Or am I stuck with having to leave the key in the ignition to run the Engel?

Auxillery Power Without Key?

The best way of doing it is remove the plug from the back of the cig lighter and link the positive wire from the aux power outlet to the back of the cig lighter.

Take a wire from the positive side of the battery (aux preferred) via a 10 amp fuse through a switch and connect to the factory wire that is still connected to the aux power socket and cig lighter.

The idea of the switch is you have the option of still controlling the aux power socket and cig lighter by the ignition switch, when you need power when the ignition is turned off all you do is flick the switch that will supply 12 volts to the two sockets.

The ideal place to mount the switch is in the top panel of the glove box, there is a flat bit of plastic that forms the inside top of the glove box (not the lid) about 20mm to the left of the catch...drill a hole and mount the switch.

Mounting the switch there is out the way and can not be accidentally turned on but is still very accessible.

When you make the joining wire at the back of the two sockets you might want to take another wire from it and make a daisy chain with about 6 terminals so you can plug other gear in as well and control it via the ignition or the switch.

Cheers Richard, very much appreciated.

Put an online order in earlier tonight for the parts I'll need after reading rodw's thread here ... http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1406
