GME 3440 = Free voltmeter

Postby rodw on Thu, 12 Jun 2008 4:31 +0000

Well this might just fall into the useful trivia department, but after installing my New GME 3440 UHF, I found that there is an option to make it display voltage rather than SWR (Signal Strength).

When the feature is turned on, the battery voltage is displayed all of the time on the LCD display.

I think I will find this useful to monitor the state of my Aux battery I wired it into. You can easilly see when the isolator cuts in as the voltage jumps from say 12.5v to 13.8v. With the ignition off, it dislays the voltage in the Aux battery, so I can monitor the condition of it as my fridge draws it down.

Just watch that the up and down arrows don't rotate through the options. (If you run out of up, you got to go down).

Ages ago, I downloaded the GME software for the 3400 that allows you to reprogram the set. Still got it. not sure if would help DLUX.

Nowhere near as configurable as the Icom 400 (got that software too) which allows you to TX at 25 watts instead of the legal 5...

I have the cop channels on mine. Only NSW though as Vic cops use the 100K range...

In scan mode the battery gauge doesn't show until you stop on a channel under 40 (I think) or turn the scan function of...

If anyone wants I can scan and upload the channel list I have.

I installed mine on the weekend (tx 3420),Great little radio (had a gme tx 4200 in a rodeo never faulted) i mounted the head unit on the ash tray (non smoker8-) ) and the unit under the drivers seat. I followed the excellent instructions in the tech section on this very forum.
Cheers.

Jep, hold the F button in until it beeps. Then press it again to cycle to the menu till you see the SWR option, use the channel up or down to change it to BATT, then press F a few times to get out of the menus again.

Rodw,

Do you have a copy of the GME program. I believe that site wants cash for signing up before being able to access the download... :(
