No master key hilux 2006

Postby Xr8tdd on Mon, 09 Sep 2013 8:41 +0000

Hi guys.

Im sure this question has been asked NUMEROUS times but im yet to find a convincing answer.

I have a 2006 sr hilux i purchased second hand. The only key that came with the car was the grey "vallet" key. So my question is. What is the best way to get around this problem?
Toyota put me onto a locksmith that wanted 1600 dollars to reprogram the computer and give me 2 new keys. Toyota also suggested to replace the antitheft system which will cost me about 900 dollars excluding labour.

Any feed back would be much appreciated to get me over this little hurdle im having

hi mate

My brother had the same issue on his 2007 hilux, when he bought he only got the grey vallet key. after a lot of calling around to toyota, locksmiths.. etc the only and the cheapest solution that even toyota recommended was to take it to a locksmith that can reprogram the computer. You cant program another key to your system without a master key (black key). I think it cost him around $1800 a couple years ago for the reprogramming and 2 remote keys

From what I have read on this forum that is on par with a recode and supply of new keys. Master keys from Toyota coded to your ignition from what I have read are $300 each providing that you can supply a master key.. I've got an 07 it came with 2 masters and a 'valet' key. Which shouldn't open the glove box? ( Not sure on this). Toyota did a recall on the 05 and 06 models or perhaps did warranty on them because the rubber on the key boot itself broke down especially in tropical environments and re issued owners with the new style of key which might apply to your model. Possibly providing you can supply a master key
My wife runs around in an 08 Yaris, it only came with one master key and a valet. I've been thinking of getting another Master cut for when Justin Case arrives due the expense of doing the whole reprogramme thing.
Good Luck and keep us posted of your progress.
Cheers

you need to treat this as if you have lost all your keys

You need a key ecu (certification ecu) and the key you have (slave)and two new master keys.
Then it can be programed. The key ecu is not supplied with keys you have to get what keys you require

So the cheaper option would be one master key with buttons one master key without buttons and use your slave

Do heaps not a big issue just time consuming ad the certification ecu is right behind the dash near the firewall. that takes a bit to get to to replace it. then it take about 1hr to set up the new security part of the system .

hope this helps

FYI!
Sometime insurance will pay for this if you have lost ALL your keys and the truck gets towed to the shop?

That's a huge job for the scrap yard mob to remove the required dash components and ignition barrel. Certification ecu and normally they will only have one key as well. I bet they would charge accordingly.

Then it adds disassembly and reassembly time and another program stage because u are changing the barrel.

Not to mention you will have a different start key to your door keys. Unless you go the extra mile and replace them too.

If u have the grey slave key

You need purchase a black key no buttons (back up master)
A key with door lock buttons
And a key certification ecu

The 3 items are arounds about 750 bucks from memory including cutting the keys.

Then 1 to 2 hrs to gain access to the cert ecu and then reassemble. Program and hand shake.

Then don't loose the black master key without buttons!

Hey Guys

What I learnt from this -> http://www.newhilux.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=19105

Was that you can get a $5 flat key cut that should never ever be inserted into the ignition, no electronics in a flat key, even the Valet key has the electronics !!!

But it can be used to open the door :)

So hide a black key in the car & carry the $5 key as a spare :?:

BTW - You will find that BH55 is saying BTDT !!!

Is the valet key supposed to start the car?
Cos mine doesn't.
It only opens the doors, and I was told its ok to get it wet ie when I go surfing.

Hey Ash

My Valet key starts the car.

I was told by a locksmith that it wont open the glove box, stops the Valet stealing all your money you keep in the glove box :o

Hi guys I brought a 2009 lux it came with only one key so I got one off ebay for under $80 new. Took it to a locksmith that I knew and he cut the key for nothing but he would not code it in. He gave me a copy of info to code in and tryed it with no luck. Opened key to find I got the wrong chip my mistake did not know, so have ordered the right chip (B41TH new key). So if it works $80 for key and will have an uncut key with other chip B41TA maybe will off load with coding info. WILL UPDATE WHEN NEW KEY ARRIVES Cheers

Yes it beeps, seller emailed back this
"If the dealer try to read chip data from your original key and write the chip data to new key which is wrong, the correct process to get the new chip programmed is connect the programmer to your car's OBD2 connector and register the new chip to your car, clone the chip by key to key is for aftermarket chip, the key you bought from me with oem chip installed, please tell them the chip can not be cloned by key to key"
TOYOTA did say to try a locksmith they might have a way around it  :o :x
I will go back to Toyota and talk to them, for $45 or a locksmith $??. If they can do the job it will be a total of $115 for key and coding ;)

Check the marking on your working key. The early aus one is stamped G. And the later ones home one or two dots on them.
You need the same key type for it to program.
Eg. You need two keys with a G stamped
Or two keys with the single dot.

Would be interested to know what if any the eBay key is marked.

Bingo Thanks Boxhead. Two different keys, my keys is a G and the ebay key is a dot. Both are meant to be a B41TH. Next trick take the chip out of my key and put into new key with dot. :( vehicle dose not start so it is not just a matter of having the chip you also have to have the right key as Boxhead has pointed out. I did go back to Toyota today, they said they had tried manually and with computer but they did not not pick up on this g and dot thing and I did not find this info out until after work hours.. Cheers Boxhead for your time.

Ok Start to get my head around what is going on. My key will start the vehicle without the guts inside, the guts is just for the doors B41TA or B41TH I thing that it depends on year?. The little strip thing inside the shell is what lets me start the vehicle. So it seems that the key G or dot thing is where its not working for me or Toyota. Will go to my locksmith friend for help also emailed ebay seller to see if he has got a G key. First key off ebay had a dot but I brought the wrong one I needed the B41TH not the other. The second key with the B41Th inside had no markings on shaft. Time is my freind
