Remote Central Locking not Working

Remote Central Locking not Working

Postby bretthav on Thu, 18 Jul 2013 7:51 +0000

Hi all,

I have a 2008 Hilux. Remote central locking has stopped working from the key. Works just fine from the drivers door switch. Power windows are also fine so not a power issue.

Around the time this fault appeared I had installed a LED taillight which didn't work so I went back to a normal bulb.

Took it to Toyota who tried to re-code the remotes only to discover the keys transmitters (main and spare) are after market jobs. After which Toyota became extremely unhelpful and decided that I needed a new Component (CPU I think) and keys which was going to be well over $1000. Suggested I go and see RUSWIN for an aftermarket solution.

Went to RUSWIN they had no idea either. Very helpful, but not, if you know what I mean.......

Don't think it's an RF problem as it happens everywhere, Toyota, home, RUSWIN, out bush.....

Left wondering what is a solution or option to try that isn't going to cost me $1000s.

any wisdom or ideas?

Bretthav,

Did you find a solution to this? Similar issues here on a old work car.

Car is a 2008 SR Hilux dual cab. Tried to reprogram the key via the door open/shut routine but no luck.
Interior light still works, but someone in the past has messed with the power windows and has made them work at anytime regardless of the ignition.

Would this be a good place to start?

Thanks in advance, Paul

Paul there might be too many remotes programed to the car. First using the door process. Erase all remotes then program the ones you have. This is always overlooked.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the PM.

Followed the procedure.

On removal of key, doors locks cycled to the number selected.

Held both buttons on remote released and then pressed unlock.

Still no dice. :x

Thoughts?

Hey Boxhead,

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it but I dont get any confirmation lock/unlock so it seems to be quite messed up.

One thing I do notice is that the beep of key in and door open is also missing so I guess it is all tied up.

Thanks again for your help

I think from memory a while ago, if you unplug the seatbelt beeper wires under your seat, they also stop the remote locking. Thats why i pluged them back in.

Up date... couldn't find any blown fuses etc then discovered if sitting in the car it worked normal. Step out of the car and nothing. Then I touched the tip of the key on the drivers door lock and it worked normal??? I then started walking away from the car and and it continued to work. Just tried it again now and nothing?? intermittently works sitting inside and now won't work outside unless I touch the radio aerial with the tip of the key??? Does the remote receiver in the car have its own back up battery?

G'day,
My 08 SR5 did this to me tonight. All was working perfectly and when I pulled up at a mates house I noticed my interior light not working so popped the cover off, gave the globe a twist and it started working. Put the cover on and jumped out to lock the car only to find the remote didn't work and interior light was still on. Opened the door, popped the cover off the light and the globe was REALLY hot, starting to burn almost. Used a key to pop it out and I think that the part that holds the globe in was touching the metal above the globe causing a short. After I pulled he globe out the key still didn't work so checked fuse (number 23) 7.5 and it was not blown but swapped to be sure. After I got home I tried my other remote key and it didn't work either. I'm worried that the 'short' in the interior light has somehow damaged something on the same circuit and therefore not allowing my remotes to unlock or lock the car.

Any ideas guys?
