installing fog lights in 09 SR hilux

Postby Reardo on Sat, 18 May 2013 5:09 +0000

Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a pair of fog lights for $40 off a fella that had an SR5 and just put a bullbar on.
The lights themselves come with the light of course and the black bracket around the outside to fix to the car.
I have looked under my car and there is nothing there to fix to at all, is there an internal bracket the sr5 has that I don't have?
I have also found the plug for both lights and tryed to tirn them on and nothing, the fuse is there and all.
Anyone with and SR5 help shed some light please

Hi,
I've installed fog lights into my SR with a standalone harness, but have done some further research to see if i can integrate them into the factory harness. The fog light wiring goes to unit B - the relay integration module. The following diagrams indicate the pinouts on the module connectors:

When i get some time i'm going to see if i can get this working

Finally nutted it out. Connect the green and black wire to negative ground and it triggers the fog relay.

So pull it out and hook it up to the ground in the engine bay? Once you do it, it will turn on with the lights or do you have a separate switch?

Green-Black wire should be negative switched. The positive is fed to the relay via the park light circuit.
With this setup fog lights are switched separately but will only turn on once the parkers are turned on.

Is there a lead in the dash for the internal switch? I have the ones at the front for the lights. Also do you have a photo of the lights mounted behind the bumper?
Thanks for your help

That wire in the picture is located on the fuse box toward the bottom left of the steering column. It continues up the steering column for the headlight/indicator switch, but it doesn't go anywhere as the SR switches don't have the fog light switch built onto it. Regarding the bumper i won't be much help to you as i have a 2013 which is different.

replace your blinker/light switch with one from an sr5.
that's what I did when I installed my bull bar c/w fog lights. no extra wiring required.
Hope this helps. (switch cost me $60 & included wiper switch) ( be careful to put the clockspring back the way you found it)

Thanks for the instructions above. Worked a charm. Only issue though is that there is no fog light symbol illuminated on the dash cluster.
Anyone know if it is possible to get that working as well? Eg connect #30?

You would have to run a LED light to the dash cluster off the switch, it's not fitted.

Hi there.
I have a 2010 auto petrol SR.

Have you upgraded to the sr5 illuminated dash? I have just installed the SR5 dash ( with the blinker/foglight combo stalk) and installed the foglights. The foglight symbol worked. The wiring and relays are already prewired in the factory car harness.

Cheers

Guys - i've found your thread while I've been trying to fit aftermarket fogs in a Mk7 2015.

I've located the Green/Black wire near the steering wheel, and connected it to the grey wire behind the radio.

This oddly, doesn't power the front fog lights, but does light up a new green light in the instrument cluster.

I know i'm super close to powering these fogs with the OEM wiring and the OEM switch on the stalk - i just can't seem to get it right - any help is much much appreciated.

You have to check if there is fuse in engine bay.
