LED replacement globes

Postby oldrev on Sat, 10 May 2008 7:56 +0000

over the past few weeks i have replaced most of my stop /tail/indicator bulbs with led equivalents.
when doing the indicators i've worked out that i need a load of some sort to do all six bulbs because i can only run 2 bulbs without the whole show going pear shaped .
a new flasher thingy seems to be the go.
parkers no problem except the t10 wedges i put into the head lights have already failed.
i thought i would just share the learn by trial and error with you mob
cheers

that is strange i wouldve thought that leds would draw less power and there fore be better
well there you go it just shows that i should stick to diving and leave electrical stuff to the experts

thanks for the heads up mate8-)

Ken
Have you had the upgrade wiring kit for the flashers put into your hilux? I had a problem with mine overloading with the plant trailer and the hazard lights flashing it would just stop working because of to much current draw through the flasher unit. It would work as an indicator only but hazards would overload. Now after the upgrade it seems fine.
The trailer is running LED lights and have around 20 individual LED's for each indicator have no problem at all with it now.
The LED's are great on trailers because you dont have to worry about voltage either my trailer lights also work on the tipper with 24 volt system.

Sorry Ken.
Misread your your post, you could try putting a 1 or 2 ohm resistor on the output of the flasher unit but it may dim the LEDs a little for a test. But a compatible flasher unit would be the go.

I've got no idea about electrical gear, flasher thingy's, resistors, but will keep an eye on this thread cos i smashed one of my rear lights on the tray coming out of a gully last week and a genuine replacement is way too pricey.
Was going to ditch the other one and fit led tail lights instead, if i need to spend the money i might as well make it look good.

richard,
even though i have blown a globe yet,all the bulbs other than the ones on the rear are a bugger to get @.
the ones in my arb bar are a task to change .
i just thought i would possibly get away from ever having to replace bulbs anytime soon.
in past experiances its always around rego time that they blow

Our Hilux is nearly 3 years old and haven't replace a globe yet....come to think of it out of the seven vehicle we own including 4 service vehicles we have only replace 2 headlight globes and a break light globe in the last 3 years,

How much did it cost you to convert them over?

Hi
Am running Led's with no dramas, go to ebay site Brightlightautos and they will sell you a load resistor to be placed in paralell with blinker led and this will tell computer ecu that there is a current draw, without this the ecu thinks there is no current draw and goes pear shape

Cheers Drew
