New Starter Battery time

hmmm, post disappeared, ill have another go.
to date I haven't heard any bad reports about optima other than price, silver you have had a particularly good run out of that, you would have to be happy with it. Price is relative to where you are when the battery you saved a few bucks on fails.

Has anyone had any bad runs with optima?

I just replaced my battery with a Hybrid deep cycle/crank from Powerspark Batteries in Concord, Sydney. It's got 690CCA, 95aH and only cost me $150! You can reach him on 0405 420 000. He has a mobile service too.

is there some reason why yellow top optima's only go up to something like 55 or so amp hours capacity?

in a few weeks ill be heading to central aus for a few week trip, as cheap insurance im thinking of chucking a new battery in, as i have only had the hilux for a few months and have no idea how old the current battery is..
is the Optima D27F the one to get as a main cranking battery?

Battery Questions - terminal studs on the Batteries starting to corrode up.
Does this indicate or have any reference to the Battery starting to show its used by date?

Still running the original in my truck (7 years), but have noticed of late the corrosion build up on terminals is getting worse and battery starting to labour.

Yes, it should be the best cranking battery fitting current hilux. It has more than enough 900CCA cranking power. It was too expensive 2 years ago when I needed to replace mine. I ended up using an Exide Extreme which is about to fail. Optima is cheaper now and should be the way to go. Put it in and forget about it in the next 5-7 years.

not sure but all my battery failures in the past did not involve studs corrosion. Regulator may be putting a too high voltage such that the battery emits gas and corrodes the terminals. Take it to supercheap/autobahn for a free battery/alternator check.

Had a century n70 deep cycle as my dual battery a mate went to help me put in in the tray and it leaked all over him he had burns on his leg. Use supercharge amp tech batteries now they seem to go well they cop a lot of abuse lol cost $200

Optima all the way.

I got mine from TJM in Nerang for $500 for 2, 1 is the starter battery with high crank and a deep cycle. It was $500 cash on new years eve last year. I love these batteries and you will too.

Optima question, for a main start battery which do you put in .'yellow D27 or the red tops ?
See the Red top is a dedicated starter battery but looks like fellas are putting in yellow D27f?

Yellow top with dark grey body are starting Battery's

Yellow top with light gray body are deep cycle but cab with stand a few starting cycles if nessesary

Umm, correct me if Im wrong, but I can't find any info or reference to the different coloured body in a Yellow Top.
Know looks like the Blue Top has the different coloured body configuration.

Looks like the Yellow D27f will do the job (and work better when the winch is kicked up)

Just a quick report on a deep cycle battery. If you have read my other posts in this thread you will know my thoughts on batteries ( a necessary evil ).

When I wound up my business to go work in the mining industry in WA I was left with a pair of 80 AH Rocket ca/ca duel purpose batteries, fully sealed,( VRSLA ) which were about 3 months old at the time and were on constant charge from the vehicles system used for jump starting. They have sat in a cupboard connected to a smart charger for 2 years and 7 months until 3 weeks ago when I finally got the time to start installing stuff into my own ute.

Put a cfx35 fridge in the back and one of these batteries under the bonnet together with a redarc bcdc 1225lv,under the back seat,( picked up from bansheebuzz for the same price as ebay, which by the way was less than trade price from a major a/e supplier I have an account with ) set to 14.9 volts. Redarc recommend a setting just above 15 volts for calcium batteries but I just cant bring myself to pump that much into a fully sealed battery, it could make it more efficient, or it could blow the safety valve on a hot day and make me a very unhappy camper.

Ran the fridge constantly ever since set at 5 degrees. The longest without driving other than starting it to run it out of the garage for work was 3 days so I measured the voltage with the fridge running at 11.95 volts. Impressed me, hope the other one performs as well, it will be going in the trailer to run the shower and other camping luxuries you would expect a sparkie to have.

I was intending to run optima's but will hold off now till I see how these go through summer.
