I have a snap-on solus pro with the 12.2 update, connects to everything, runs obd2 and most manufactures software, tried cheap scanners but they are more trouble than they are worth. The solus tells you step by step instructions how to connect to vehicles, where the plug is, what code means and diagnostic procedures to repair them. You can do everything the dealer can do and also FIX it, not just clear and say " should be right now". Worth every cent!

I've got an 2013 SR5 XCab no engine or exhaust upgrades as of yet and got an iPhone app called Engine Link $7.50 app takes a bit to connect to the ELM327 WiFi $35 from eBay but it dose work!!! But some interesting figures show up from the standard power and torque Toyota say the hiluxs have 126 kW and 343 nm of torque but the peak kW and nm I've seen not at the same time (if you can trust it) is 165kw and 650 nm of torque and peak boost is 12.5 psi

haha thats so far off from the real thing i wouldnt even bother relying on it for anything serious! youve wasted 42buks that could have gone towards the real thing like a scan guage thats accurate and not another phone distraction that could get you or some else killed

I use Rennacs code reading system most the time as it does everything but I also use some scan tools for android and iPad with the diagnostic connectors from Scantool.Net like the MX which has a great sampling rate and use with proven apps like Dashcommand and Torque Pro, personally ,don't bother with the cheap elm 327 stuff, have tried many and can get frustrating at times, used Dascommand and Mx on 06 hilux and works great imo

Can the wi-fi/iPhone ELM 327 scanners give you real time tranny temp and EGT?

I thought i might as well kick this old thread in the guts instead of starting a new one . I have a pre obd2 hilux 02/06 and i happend apon some diagnostic port adaptors on ebay for about $7 and was wondering if a obd2 scantool would work with the adapter on my ute? Has anyone tried this? All help greatly appreciated.
I love my ute but not as much as my dashound does!!
I just put a 3 inch exhaust on the ute, now the D4D sounds like a V4!!!

I just picked my car from the mechanics and he said he removed the obd11 scanner because when the computer senses one plugged in it goes into "test" mode. So the computer won't learn as conditions change, eg: bad fuel, etc. Anyone else been told that?

Worth a try but 2/ 2006 might just miss out, maybe the adaptor might just work. It's mainly due to the difference plug/socket but the interface with the ECU should be ok.

Thanks Gipsy, I figure that if it's the plug it's self that is the difference not the interface or whatever i will then buy a scan tool i just don't want till i have tested first. I will post the results here but that probably won't be for a few weeks. The main thing i am after is real engine temps.
