Where to install a UHF

Where to install a UHF

Postby najoyne on Sat, 09 Jun 2012 6:02 +0000

Good morning all
I have just taken possession of a 2012 SR5 Duel cab Diesel Hilux and wanting to install my GME Tx3220 UHF in the cabin.
Was wondering where others have installed their UHF . The Hilux doesn't seem to have much room for this unit
Any ideas ?
I did a search but nothing came up
Regards

I replaced my stereo with a single DIN Kenwood unit and put the UHF underneath in the space left.

Hamoyz have you cut the dash there or is that just the photo?

Where to install a UHF

Postby Rets1990 on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 5:04 +0000

Yeah mate, I started the exact same thread about 4 months ago if that. I bought a UHF with a head unit that has no buttons, all the buttons are located on the handset. If yours is the same pop your console off and use some double sided tape to hold it down, then run your cable for the handset through the tiny hole just under dash. It's the cleanest and least destructive way. Image

Thank you all
You have give me some great ideas
Will spend some time on this one. I don't need that ash tray so it might be removed and my UHF squeezed in there.

I thought of removing the ashtray, but this holds my goldies that I might use for smoko or a quick schooner on the way home ;)

Mine has separate head unit so base and speaker are mounted under passenger seat ( made it easy to install ) and head unit screwed to console behind gearstick under ashtray

Where to install a UHF

Postby Rets1990 on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 5:48 +0000

Well I can change my settings so that the noise comes through the handset, the console or even both. I have it coming through the handset and it's sometimes louder then the music I play. I know another person on this forum that drilled holes through the plastic but I certainly am not doing that to a 50,000.00 dollar car!

Where to install a UHF

Just having a think...the console is not sealed in anyway. Its just plastic clips sitting on the interior carpet. It shouldn't have a muffled sound because air can move freely in and out. Try putting your mobile phone in their and closing it up while music plays. That could give you your answer.

I put my unit under drivers seat kept in place by velcro and the handset plugs into adaptor in centre console when i need it. You dont see anything unless ur using handset in my case.
