thats for your reply Richard, I'm using fused battery terminals with have a large black fuse and 2x 30A orange fuses, the large black one I want to leave spare for the future winch, just wondering if 30A is enough for the 4g wire to charge up the rera batteries in the tub, these too will have the fused battery terminals.....Brian

Can you fuse a winch? Dont they draw upwards of 500Amps at stall. Will have to check mine but I think is just connected straight to the terminal? When time permits want to put a disconnectable terminal on the winch to stop the supposed car park incidents.

You want to use 2 x 100A maxi fuses.

Some really good information is on this page.

Hi Rich.
Car park incidents with winches are.Kids or pests shorting out the plug with a paper clip.Etc in the front of the vehicle and unspooling the winch wrapping the cable around something and winding her in. Didnt believe it myself until I watched a 4wd action video and the bloke wired in a loop into the cab to disable the plug with a switch in the cab. Didnt think kids were that smart but there are alot of twits out there to that would think it would be funny to winch the front end off the ground. Also heard stories of them throwing the cable over a beam and connecting it to the towbar and winding it in for a laugh. Reckon the worst on would be wrapping it around something solid like a column with a bit of slack. When you return to your vehicle, drive off for as far as the slack then bang!

Yep you wil need two fuses... one at the Pos (start) and one at the Pos (Aux) Depending on what you are running off the Aux, I would use a minimum of 50Amp, but 100 should be fine.. remember that what ever you use, if there is a short then it will draw up to the fuse breaking point... even 50 amps is a fair bit and can melt your wiring .. so less is more.. but if you find you are blowing the fuse just runnig your normal stuff, then go a bigger one. I havent got a link to the video, but it 4wd action Dvd issue 115. It is not a vid of it being done just a guy who put a measure in his vehicle to stop it from being done. But if you watch the movie "the Gods must be crazy" you will see and extreme case of this. Its a comedy movie. Sorry to go off topic bj343:)
