After trying the new box im still not happy with the volume output, so im getting rid of the cvt12.2 and installing a kicker L7 8" in a 20ltr ported box (22ltrs with out port).
http://www.kicker.com/Solo-Baric_L7
And ill be running it off my kicker zx400.1 (400rms min. but spec sheet says 463rms)
Hop this does a better job then my 12",
Im very happy with my 2 cvt8.4 under seat as they pump harder then most single 12" ive owned.
So only time will tell. Now i have to wait for it come from America, no stock in aus. + $$$ say to buy over there.

Ok so i had a quick flick through some of the posts and its sounds like most of you know a fair bit about sound systems.
My lux currently has a full alpine type R system, but it was always ment to be moved into a wagon. So the sub is a full size 12 type R that spends its time on the floor (or seat) in the back. I started looking into slimline sub, and found that in the states they have a slimline type R, part number SWR-T12. There not cheep but i love my current sub its just a pain. So i was thinking another mono amp and 2 of these bad boys behind the back seat.

Im just interested to see what you guys think? As iv never had a slimline sub and im unsure if it will still sound the same

Cheers Tom

Mate unfortunately from my experience they don't sound the same, i know i have a shitty pioneer but i have a friend with a slim alpine. The alpine is alot better than the pioneer but it sounds completly different to a normal sub. The reason is is that a normal sub the woofer travels alot further and so gives a longer sound. Ill try and make an example, slimline puuh, normal dooooooooooom. Lol i hope that helped, but in regards slimlins do sound great if u spend the money, and u can still put 3 people in the back.

i would only get one 12inch swr t12 and build a custom box and make it as big as possible, in my brothers car we made the box close to 50 litres using fibreglass over the back wall to increase internal volume... then port the box and run it off a pdx mono amp, that should sound sweat.....
but if the box isnt ported you need to have double the power running the sub in a sealed box
swr t 12 = 600 RMS
in a sealed box i would run a amp that gives around 1000 RMS at 4 ohms

i had a hertz 12inch 1000 watt RMS sub in a sealed box which was run by a 750 RMS amp and then i changed to a kicker slim line which RMS is only 400 but i have it running of the same amp at 750 RMS and it sounds nearly the same, it doesnt quite get the lows of the hertz but it gets close...

at the moment i am just starting to build a ported box for my single cab, in the same efforts in going to fibreglass the back wall to maximize volume and with the room i have i should be able to create a 65 litre box behind the seat of my car, im going to run one kicker CVT 12 2 ohm in the box, it will be run off a 400.1 kicker amp.

Anyone has dimensions for a box for a 10" sub for a 96 hilux? They have a very annoying structural bar across the back that I cannot remove. If you like could you please email them to this address as i'm not likely to come back onto this forum (only joined to see this post  ) : sykopyro(at)hotmail(dot)com

Thanks guys, i'm having a bit of trouble getting this to fit. :x

Also where are the best sites to buy car audio gear from apart from ebay?

Im running the pioneer avic F90BT, Has a USB connection with IPOD adapter. Im currently running music from a SD card. Great little unit.

just got my amp and sub installed on the weekend.

Seriously, buy your gear from amazon.com

I saved just about 400 bucks on a MB quart amp and Rockford Fosgate Slim sub. The guy that i get to install my stuff even said his going to start buying his equipment for clients via amazon. He couldn't come close to matching the prices i got.

I paid 990 off ebay a year ago.

You can get the New version with a 7 inch screen for i think 1300, dont quote me though

Both DVD and Nav system work 100%. Its even got the SUNA live traffic management system in it, which comes in real handy sometimes.

Ok Lads, since i have half sorted my headunit i am not moving onto some subs for behind the dual cab seat.

I have decided i'm going to custom make the box and want to run 2 - 10" subs. i will need the sub to have a maximum of 5.5" mounting depth (preferably under 5").

I am split between Kicker and Rockford Subs in particular these ones:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_219 ... VT102.html
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_337 ... D4-10.html

I'm open to other brands, but pretty keen to save some cash and buy from the states, I am looking to spend no more then 300 bucks. What would you guys recommend, also what sort of amp would best suit these?

Cheers,

Max

if you save up a bit more i would buy the jl audio slim line

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs ... age_id=245

they sound amazing and only need 2.5inches mounting depth,

i have the slim line kicker and wish i saved up, with the kicker you need massive power to run then properly and control the sub well..

even though they are a 13.5 inch sub they will still fit behind the back seat.

'Marshwa'
What are you trying to achieve, are you after an SQ, SPL or mixture of both?
Have you upgraded stock speakers, If so what do you have?
Are speakers on a amp?
Where do plane on putting amps(under passengers seat or behind rear seat)?
Are you dead set on 2x 10" or a single 12, or even 8"
Do you have an amp for sub already?and what is it?
What head unit do you have?
And total budget?

Thanks glide, had a look at the jl but thnk 2 10's may be a better option for a little less money.

John at the moment i have a fully stock sr5 sound system. i have just swapped the head deck and want to start by adding an amp and 2x10" subs, then shortly down the track add another amp and replace all 4 speakers. amp will be mounted under the passenger seat i'm thinking to give the max amount of volume behind my rear seat.

I have a JVC KD-G825 head unit, got it for free so have the money now to spend on other audio gear. total budget at this stage including postage is no more the 500 bucks, i'm thinking i should be able to get away with that.

Want to achieve a defenate THUMP but also maintain sound quality, I want it a little more then just somthing that give a little low down bass (for rock and metal what not). I listen to mostly aussie hip hop, rap and techno.

The 2 you have looked at are not even close in comparison

The RF wont go below 45hz and with a 87db 1w/1m requires heaps of power to go loud
the kicker will go down to 25hz with a 87.2db 1w/1m its in the same boat(hilux)

You can fit 2x 10" Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 under rear seat in toolboxes, just line them with dynamate
or make some boxes behind rear seat.

The pioneer will go down to 20hz with a 90db 1w/1m, sealed/ported specs 0.35-1cuft
so in layman's terms you'll need at-least 600wrms each sub for the rf and kicker to be as loud as the pioneer at 300wrms
Also remember bank for buck is in a ported box so if you want it louder port it.

If i were you and you can build a ported box put them behind rear seat, if not just fit them in toolboxes under seat and store tools behind seat

if you are going to build box specs are each sub
sealed 10-20ltrs (.35-.7cuft)
ported 14ltrs (0.5cuft) with a 3" id x12"long port
17-20ltrs (0.6-0.7cuft) with a 3" id x12.5"long port
remember ltrs is +sub+port displacement so you'll have to had them on.

i have built 2x 20ltr ported boxes and ran theis same sub in a mates car and they out perform my 12's in a sealed box, but you cant compare them to std. subs only shallow ones

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_182 ... 501S4.html
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_219 ... 700.5.html

Do you have the rear seat mod done? very recommend
