Interesting.
I can see the benefit of a manual burn switch for farmers, Mining companies, and guys traveling in the bush.
They can park up somewhere safe and do a burn etc.

How this helps Fred Nerks in the city, I'm not so sure.
My car seems to do a burn every 300 odd Kms, based on what scan gauge tells me.
So if i forget to do a burn, or burn too often, and damage something. Will this be considered operator error/abuse.........No warranty for you?

Time will tell i guess, but i like that they are trying

If Toyota thought it was necessary, they would have added this feature. My bet is Toyota has bit more experience in diesels than this mob.

Add the switch at your own risk.
I might be wrong.

If the switch is in fact a Toyota retrofit to try and fix the dpf problem then surely they deem in necessary? Lol

Is it... or did this mob say that? Just like they said their DP Chip was a safe modification (along with all of the other marketed benefits of the chip)

How many DPF equipped vehicles have Toyota sold..? I don't see queues of these vehicles outside my local dealership each morning as I roll past. Yes there are problems but the numbers are much less than what the facebook posts would like you to believe.

Ive lifted this from another forum (myswag). It makes interesting reading.

John, you may find this interesting. Currently employed as a Mechanical Engineer with a mining contractor with a fleet of over 200 current model mining spec Toyota Hiluxs in various body configurations depending on the individual mines policy. After ongoing issues with the DPF, which resulted in multiple vehicles being banned from site due to excessive exhaust fuming, I was requested to investigate this ongiong occurrence. After 4 months of inhouse investigations the conclusion was reached unanimously that the position and angle of the 5th injector, along with highly turbulence and unregulated gas flow, was the issue. Simply, impurities were severely restricting or blocking the injector and/ or injector port, or worse case scenario, simply jamming the injector open, and the ECU failing to recognize the subsequent issue just defaulted into limphome. Our final report was supplied to Toyota but no further action has been taken. But, we did receive an interesting gift in the post from Toyota....A defeat box that plugs into the DPF loom and instructions on how to remove the DPF from the vehicle !!!!. The Electrical Engineers have now replicated the circuitry, understand how it defeats the system and applied to all the Toyota Hiluxs on the site I work on. The circuitry is also flexable enough to defeat other brands of vehicles that employ similar systems. Understandably not ideal under any circumstances but the DPF issue has been overcome somewhat."

A little bit of topic
I wonder if the 2.4 Diesel used on the 2wd models and also in the Uk and Europe are having DPF issues
Does anyone know?

Ive heard the 2.4 doesn’t seem so suffer the PDF issues, really seems to be the 2.8
But I’ve heard this from European posts as they only get the 2.4 there.

The 2.4L I have is just as bad. Currently 52KM on the clock and heading in for its 5th DPF replacement today! Seems my Hilux gets a new DPF at every service. Currently the Hilux has more sick days than anyone in the company!

Mate that is outrageous! There is obviously something wrong somewhere else in the system. Sounds like that old saying 'Treat the cause, not the sympton'. The Mechanics must be clueless or have they been left hanging by Toyota. I see your from Brisbane what dealer are you using or just give me a hint if you don't want to name them.
