Water leaking?

Postby Tappa22 on Thu, 19 Jan 2017 5:29 +0000

I've got a 2016 SR Extra cab 4x4, when I drove through the auto car wash water leaks onto the front passenger floor through the air conditioning fan? Is this normal or should I be taking it to have it looked at under warranty?

Sure it's through the aircon fan ? Have you got roof racks ?

Yeah, drips out the bottom of the fan unit, easy to see when you take the panel out underneath the glove box

When you stop is there a pool of water under the car from the A/C drain (If not or it is less than normal), can you hear water sloshing around under the glove box
Then the drain pipe is blocked (not unusual)
You can blow it out with compressed air from underneath (or sometimes just bending it around a bit and the crud falls out)
I've had this issue when driving on a lot of dirt roads

Drain isn't blocked and it doesn't leak at any other time than the car wash, it's like the drain just isn't capable of handling the amount of water?

The drain is there to drain off condensation from the evaporator, not to drain water from outside, water should not get in from outside.

Water comes from the fan housing if the drain blocks up but it should not be in there, if your getting water in from outside there is a good chance the fan motor is full of water if they sit with the motor to the bottom(I have not seen how it is orientated) like many cars do.

My old car used to do this, when you shoot jets of water it would come into the AC air intake (which is the plastic bezel in between the windscreen and bonnet.

Yeah, that's what I mean, it's like the grill underneath the wipers, where the intake is, isn't suffficient to drive through a car wash? Surely that's a design issue...
