Drive Away Price

Postby Z50Jay on Tue, 25 Oct 2016 9:10 +0000

Hi all,

Looking at picking up a dual cab 4wd in the next couple of weeks and it will be my first new car. I'm looking at the SR 4X4 dual cab but I spoke to a guy at work who got his previous model SR5 for similar money to the SR at the time. So I was wondering what kind of deals are realistically negotiable with the dealer? Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Jay

You never know till you ask, and be prepared to walk away and not listen to salesman bulls%^t. If a dealer has what you want in stock and you have no trade you can negotiate a decent price. One of my work colleagues is looking at a new dual cab auto 4x4 right now, tossing up between a Ranger XLT and an SR5, got offered an SR5 with leather, bull bar & winch drive away for $59k. I think he is leaning towards a Ranger at the moment as there are better deals around.

I agree, it is YOUR money, if your not happy with what they are telling you, go elsewhere. Make sure the contract is on your terms.

Remember to ask when somebody tells you about their 'cracking deal' weather or not they financed the car.
Dealers will always sweeten the pot with a bunch of their overpriced extras (and total bullshit like 'rust protection' and 'extended warranty') when they know they can jag you for finance on top.

SR5 - Crystal Pearl - towbar - mats - 57k drive away. cash.

You can always lead them on regarding finance then change once you have everything signed, just let them do you up a finance quote then tell them your bank is offering a better deal, I haven't seen a contract yet that stipulates you must get dealer financing.

Thats right, trouble is you wont have any leverage to negotiate a better deal on the purchase price. You're giving the game away right off the bat - ie - letting the dealer knowing how much you have to spend.
Arrange independent finance, sell your old car privately and start haggling 10-12% below the sticker price, cos its only going to go up. As I said to the rep I dealt with, plenty of Toyota dealers if you cant help me out mate.
