Dash board rattle / buzz

Postby darren278 on Tue, 26 Jul 2016 4:49 +0000

In case anyone else has an annoying buzz coming from the dash and can't figure out where it's coming from, I've discovered that my noise, although sounding like it was coming from the dash was infact coming from the plastic cover next to the DAB Arial at the top of the windscreen.
Hope this helps someone.

Hey donnyroger, To be honest mate i didn't do anything other than grab hold of it and give it a gentle pull away from the screen. seems to have done the trick for me. this may change once we get the summer sun on the screen but ill figure out something if and when the buzzing comes back.

the rattle that does drive me nuts is the front passenger seat belt clip, where it sits against the pillar when retracted, it vibrates against the plastic pillar driving me nuts when there's now front passenger

mine passenger buckle rattles too after the passenger gets out.... i just lean over and push the buckle back between the seat and the plastic and the rattle stops.

yeah I do that, but it keeps rattling, the seat seems to move a lot, I've recently worked out if push the seatbelt head tip back into the retractor part it seems to be magnetic and stays there..................

Yeah the buckle drives me nuts too, i reach over and pull it towards me - so the buckle rests on the seat.

double side tape tidy patch of neoprene to plastic?
or silicone instead of tape which is possible to get off when you sell it later

How many vehicles has Toyota now made up until 2015 ?? you would think their basic design rules would eliminate a stupid little annoying things like this seat belt clip. The stopper on the seatbelt is just in the wrong position, leaving it almost resting against the plastic pillar. It's no problem on smooth freeways, but on our country roads its almost rattling all of the time and when you look at the passenger seat when its empty while on a rough road have a look at the vibration/movement of it. It looks like its going to rattle/vibrate off its mounts !!

I can take a pic if needed but it's the plastic cover at the top of the windscreen by the DAB Arial. Hard to believe the sound is coming from up there but it is.... Well it was on mine anyway.

I've been searching this forum for hints and tips for a while now and found lots of interesting stuff....this is by far the most useful.
I was convince it was coming from the drivers side cup holder and it was driving me nutz.
Cheers Darren :D

+ 1 for the picture.

Just to confirm, this is the load rattle at around 1.8-2K revs, seemingly from the left dashboard?

Had a rattle coming from what seemed the top of the dash, around 2grand. Finally found it was the plastic piece on the outside, that runs along the bottom of the windscreen. Removed it, bit of double sided tape and the noise is gone. Heavenly, hope this helps a few people with the upper dash rattle !

Mine also rattled at top of dash, it was fixed by carefully wedging some thin foam under silver trim (sr5) under clock, all sorted.

I had an issue from the drivers side recently, and discovered that it was my keyring on the keys causing it!

Also had an issue when brand new of wind noise coming from the left side mirror - I worked out it was that by putting tape around the window and mirror in small bits then driving, to see if it helped. Worked out it was the seal behind the mirror - dealer replaced the seal and no more noise. :D

Now have a rattle from the left hand side of the dash somewhere, but cant work out where. Not the DAB aerial for me since I have an SR which has no DAB, and no DAB aerial (that I know of).
