Driving lights for 2016 Premium Steel Bullbar

Postby smithymicky on Thu, 05 May 2016 9:28 +0000

Hi all,
I have just bought myself a new 2016 SR5 and had it fitted with a genuine premium steel bullbar.
Took it into ARB yesterday to talk with them about driving lights, the dude looked out the window at the bar and said he didn't think I would be able to mount the AR21 Intensity lights on it as the genuine bullbar would be too narrow..

Whats everybody else's thoughts on this? Was nearly gonna go an ARB bar, but dealer talked me into the Toyota one. (It is a fair bit more narrow than the ARB one)
If these Intensity's don't fit, whats my other options for a set of LED driving lights to fit on this bullbar?

Cheers,
Mike :D

I've fitted the Lightforce led 215s which are similar to the bigger intensities as far as size goes. I had to drill different mounting holes though.

Thanks for the reply, how do your rate the lightforce LEDs? Good for range?

:D legend, thanks for the reply. Were they the AR21s? Did you have to drill different holes for the mounts? The ARB guy said the mounts and back of the lights would be too deep

I really like them mate. Obviously don't have the distance of the 50w xgts I had on the old hilux but the spread of light is pretty impressive. Better than the intensities in comparisons I've done with a mate and I feel pretty comfortable driving at 110 on Pilbara roads at night.

Nah I haven't actually considered them, you reckon they'd fit on ok?

That's good to know about how they compare to the intensities. Did you have to take off your bullbar to install them? Might have to find somewhere in Ballarat that stocks them to have a peep..

No I didn't but I did have to bend an old open ended spanner to hold the bottom nut.

I think from memory I put my arm down between the grill and radiator with a 3/8 ratchet and deep socket.

I've got IPF900's on my 2016 premium steel bar. The mounting holes needed flogging out with a drill, and the guy who fitted mine hooked the switch up to the hi-beam light that appears in the instrument cluster, rather than to the hi-beams themselves.

The IPF900's are a real bugger to get right with the factory premium bar. My father-in-law has a 2013 SR5 with an ARB bar and that bar has hand-sized holes to allow for easy fitment/adjustment of spotties. Not the case with my factory bar. The IPF's on my bar required me removing the mesh below the spotties and blindly tightening them.

Also the IPF kit doesn't come with nyloc nuts, which made the lights point sky-high after 100kms of driving.

The lighting though is fantastic.

Kind of wishing I didn't listen to dealer and had of just gone with my gut instinct of going with the ARB summit bar instead..
Ah well not much I can do now apart from drill extra holes in the bar, did u get ur IPFs sorted with nylocs?

Yep I sorted them out with nylocs in the end, I've done maybe 2000kms over rough corrugated roads and the lights *may* have moved upwards 3/8's of 4/5's of bugger all. I discovered new made-up swear words when I lost a nyloc down INTO the bullbar and had to go back in to town the next day to get a second $1 nyloc nut during business hours... At least I can't hear it bouncing around in there when driving.

Drill extra holes? The locations of the standard holes are fine, and they needed drilling out for my IPFs. This may not be the case for other spotties.

I have both the intensity on my cruiser and the lightforce on the lux! I rekon the intensity have a wider spread but the lightforce have a slightly longer spread but not so bright up close. Not much in it though. If anything go the lightforce because of the black surround.

Thanks for posting those pics of the AR32s nice and snug fit hey? But at least they fit!!
Has anyone tried those 4wd supercentre led spotties as well? Thinking they prob wouldn't have all that good throw on them, but interested to hear if anyone has tried them out?

Yeah a bit snug but still enough room for them to wobble around on the piss weak tin bar!
