2014 SR Hilux Reversing Camera after market install HELP?

Postby pablo91 on Sat, 10 Oct 2015 1:43 +0000

Hi Guys,

have searched these forums high and low and can't seem to work out the correct input pins on the multimedia unit.

I have found the PDf installation guide from Carbon core (pictures bellow) which show the camera splitting into three cables (red yellow black) and connecting into the back of the plug. I have tried many combinations with an after market ebay camera and can't seem to get any results. any more information on which Pins the camera should be connected to would be greatly appreciated.

How do you find the reverse camera?

We had a canopy fitted a few months back and its impossible to see out the back at night.
My truck goes in for its 2 year service next month and I'm not sure if I get teh dealer to fit the factory camera of if i get one of the carbon systems kits.

Does any one know if I have constant power going to my camera from the battery so I can use it at any time instead of only reversing
Is there any issues I may come across because of this?

Most head units you can buy have an option on them. My pinoeer one lets me view camrea mode whenever i want. Its more of a test mode but can be used whilst driving ect. But my camrea is wired up to my reverse switch

I have the head unit wired to the reverse light to activate the camera when reversing.
But the actual power for the camera is constant power from the battery so I can view it at any time.
I'm just not sure if the camera only activates when I turn it on at the head unit or does it mean it's always active even when I haven't turned to camera view on the headunit

Patton mine is a AVH-X3700DAB

You go to your camrea settings and it says camrea view its defult is off turn it on and bam you have live view all time.

Works on mine, and if yours is lastest it should also work on yours

That doesnt make any sense? Your head unit if wired to your reverse yet your camrea is wired to your battery?

My head unit has a wire off the back its a reverse wire i soldered it into my reverse power wire so it will only activate using reverse. The camrea its self is a RCA which plugs in the back of your head unit

Unless theres a wire somewhere in the main loom as my head unit is using the Original plug and play it may be giving the camrea power also which iswhy i can view camrea without having it in reverse.

The other option is wire the camera as per standard (comes on with reverse) then add a switch to turn it on whenever you want. I've done this with my '13 SR5 using an Alpine head unit. Works perfectly.

I'll have a dig around to see if I can find a diagram for the wiring I used, but from memory it was just power thru the switch to the + of the camera, with diodes upstream from the connection to ensure power only goes one way.
Cheers,

I had it power through the reverse light but it would only turn on if it was in reverse I would only get black by turning camera view on
I had to give it constant power for me to view it when selected
But now I'm thinking of doing what scoobadooba mentioned
Except I have never used diodes before so something new to learn haha
