crankshaft position sensor

Hi all,
My hilux is having some random starting issues, turning the key to start hearing the solinoid click but no crank? Holding the key for a period of time to on the car sometimes starts. Other days it will start fine as per it should. And only sometimes will throw a code po335 - crankshaft position sensor. Ive check the wiring, cleaned the plug and pulled it out of the block and inspected it for damage. Doesnt matter if its hot or cold.
Has anyoneelse had this same issue?

Dunno about the code but my rig does that when the starter is due for a clean out. They get water and crap in the solenoid, makes the teminals corrode.

Code is because the ecm expects the engine should be turning so picks the most logical fault.
