4L V6 Hilux Manual

Postby ickers11 on Tue, 01 Sep 2015 8:07 +0000

Hi all,

First post on here. Currently looking at a manual sr5 4l v6, its done 220k's has a 2 inch lift and 31s. Just after a idea on consumption with the mods, as well as engine life, should i be worried about the kays?
Also, when do the clutches normally throw in the towel on these?
Also, I can do a bit of research, but has anyone had experience with autolockers (front or rear) in these, if so, how did you find them on the blacktop?

Cheers

My old ones done about the same kays and is still running strong. These are a very strong engine and can take a beating. Consumption with those mods is around 500km

I have a 2005 auto V6 220,00ks.The engine is actually much better than the diesel I'm my opinion. Tough, powerful and reliable. The only thing the diesel has over it is the consumption (mine gets between 400-450km city with some tools in the back).
In saying that though, when I was looking for one almost every Hilux diesel had a new engine or reco or some sort of major engine work done. Not one petrol had anything done to engine at all. Also a Google search will show that nearly all the problems are on the diesels and as far as I know NO known problems with the petrol regardless of kays.
Factor in cheaper purchase price, more power, same torque albeit at higher rpm, and smoother quieter running it was a no brainer for me and is buy a petrol again without hesitation. Maybe supercharge this or even TRD :D

Like the others said the V6 with 220k on it should be fine mate.
The purchase price should be pretty low.
I would factor in $1000 to give it a really good once over.. all oils and filters, spark plugs, pulleys etc.
