G'day all

Postby Bendigoluke on Tue, 01 Sep 2015 5:28 +0000

Hey guys.
Luke here from Bendigo.
Recently brought my first 4wd. A 2011 dual cab sr5 hilax. After searching for some upgrade options online i stumbled along this site and thought what a great forum to sign up to. Some nice looking rigs on here. My car is stock at the moment but am planning on turning her into a nice looking machine.

Cheers guys.

Image Welcome to the forum Luke :D if you're going to take inspiration from some of the rigs on here then take a photo of your bank balance now, because it will never be as healthy again. I found this place a few years ago just looking for some new wheels, somehow it all got a bit out of hand ;)

My plans all depend on the bank balance haha. Have worked out that anything to do with a 4wd cost a lot of coin. Getting a arb deluxe winch bar, a snorkel and a hard lid fitted in the next fortnight. Then want to get a duel battery system and rear diff lockers and winch when I can save up the cash. A few mates are right into 4w driving so planning a trip to the Ottaways when my lux is ready.

All sounds good but why a hard lid? Am yet to meet someone who didn't regret putting one on. Especially with the cost of them! Would easily pay for ya winch(while they r putting ya bullbar on!) or a good set of tyres.

I looked at a few canopies but I dont like the look of them and i need lockable storage. A Canopie would be more practicle given it gives you a lot more room on the back but im going to give the hard lid a go and see how it goes.

Hard lid for the win!

Image

Horses for courses I say. Mine had a canopy when I bought it and got rid of it and put the hard lid on. The canopy is a very permanent fixture whereas the hard lid I can take off when needed, only takes 5 min to take off. Security is another advantage, can chuck the dog in the back, looks good etc. Sure there are times when something wont fit by 50mm and that's a PITA but no option is totally foolproof.

Well got my deluxe bullbar and snorkel fitted yesterday and very happy with it. Now I'm waiting on my hard lid to arrive which hopefully is only a week or so off.
Been looking at tyres now and I'm after some all terrains. Tossing up between coopers st maxx in the 275/70R17 or the Micky thompsons Atz p3 in the 265/70R17. Any thoughts ?
