KUN26 fit FJ rear

Postby Yowie on Mon, 20 Apr 2015 2:03 +0000

Hey Guys,

New to the forum but wondering if anyone has looked into fitting a FJ cruiser rear end into a hilux over getting a buds custom coil rear. Or is it just cheaper/easier to take it to buds to get it all done.

From just looking *without measuring* it looks like the same diff housing out to the hubs which run disk brakes, also the FJ has factory rear locker.

Any info/thoughts or advice welcome.

Cheers,
Josh

Yeah well it would probably fit no dramas that way, it's just getting all the mounts welded in for the control arms, panhards etc

Yeah well if the diff is close be interesting to measure the track of the wheels to see if it's the same. Might be an investigation into this this arvo

FJ runs same track width as Prado so will be 30mm wider overall than hilux.

FJ also runs the 8,4 rear diff as opposed to hilux 8" rear diff.

If your already regeared of diff locked in rear, your better off getting a prado120 rear diff housing as the diff centers are both 8" and interchangeable.

No reason it cannot be made to work,.

Was just doing a search around google and saw a company in the US that custom make full FJ rockcrawler rear ends for $2500. Havent been able to find any second hand ones kicking around so guess if anyone is interested this would be the way to to it. Obviously before this youd want to speak with a Mech Eng about what process is required etc to make it legal but im sure it would come out cheaper that going to a company like BUD's and getting it done.

Hilux Max, Wouldnt the FJ run the same diff as a cruiser? or are they a different size?

So something like this http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/yotamain ... 1-kit.html

I take it you buy the kit and weld it onto your existing final drive assembly?

Pardon my ignorance, but will this still pass the swerve test with this sort of rear end?
