Wiring a fuse block box to engine bay or in cab ???

Wiring a fuse block box to engine bay or in cab ???

Postby sa_lux on Sun, 21 Dec 2014 6:33 +0000

G'Day Roluxers

I bought one of these -> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291216850893 -> BLUE-SEA-5025-FUSE-BLOCK-BOX-HOLDER

I was thinking that I would wire it up near the entry point into the cab thru. the firewall behind the glove box.

After cutting the 1st nipple & poking 2 x cables thru. that I wired to a usb charging 'hub' -> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191344622047 from the 2nd battery so that it will charge a phone etc. with out the need to turn on the ignition while I am camping.

If I wire in the fuse block inside the cab I now need to use the 2nd nipple to wire the blue sea fuse block box, 1 x cable (red) to positive on the battery & 1 x black to negative on the batt.

If I wire the fuse block into the engine bay I obviously dont need the 2nd nipple.

What have you guys done ???

Any auto elec. happy to tell me the tricks of the trade ???

I run a fuse block behind the glove box. It works well from there and keeps your wiring a bit neater. You could run your feeds to your usb port from the fuse block and that way run the cable to the fuse block using the same hole in the grommet.

Cheers,

Chris.

Just keep putting wires through the same nipple, they will take a lot, they just keep stretching. I have a 6mm twin sheath and a 5mm twin sheath through the same one, put them through from the inside one at a time taped to a thin draw wire and use plenty of lube, water soluble so it cleans up easily.

G'Day Marty

Thanks for the tip, I can see that the nipple stretches, but I thought that the hole was really small, I was thinkig it stops the dust getting into the cab, just enough for 2 x power cables (5 or 6 mm each), I'm going to give it a try, I was really confused about this as I could not understand how I could get 2 x CBs in the cab, the comms cables seems far to big for 1 x CB let alone 2 x CBs I eventually want to have !!!

Guys

I have got the USB running fine, was great to charge my droid from the 2nd battery overnight & not have to worry about draining the cranker over the xmas break :)

Now I need to wire up a led light bar & 2 x led spots that I am going to have on separate switches.

From this diagram

http://s13.photobucket.com/user/jbirdjjones10/media/schematic_zpsb97fcf27.jpg.html

I need 3 x red cables (12v feed) one for each of the 3 x led lights.

So I am trying to cut down on the number of red cables I need to push thru, the fire wall !!!

From the diagram I need each of these 3 reds to go thru. the firewall to the relays etc.

If I want to then have any other feed switched ( like a elocker or another light) I need to push thru. another red cable to a relay ???

Is there any way around this ?

Not really, why are you having your spotties on 2 different switches? one for the bar and one for the spotties normally does it. The wires to switch the relays don't have to be very heavy, just make sure you use an automotive cable, some of the comms cables would carry the current but would fracture with vibration.

If you get to the point you need a heap of cables and a couple of coax's you will be better off putting in a 13mm gland, 16mm if 13 isn't big enough through the firewall like jersey4x4 did.

I'm holding my breath MV, the suspense is killing me

But, I am really eager to hear how ?????????

I already have spotties, got those installed by an Auto Elec., trying to save some $$$S doing this project myself.

The 2 x leds are small square lights, one on the left hand side & one on right hand side that I can swing into the tub or outside the tub for camping or changing a flat tyre in the dark etc. so that is why I would prefer a switch for each one.

I have got Narva Auto Cable from supercheap, so all good there :)

Thxs for the heads up, I will keep this in mind mate, I have now got 6 x cables ( 3 x red & 3 x black ) in thru. one nipple so far.

I think I can probably get 2 more with a bit more lubricant.
