D4d engine seized

Postby dooka85 on Fri, 31 Oct 2014 9:36 +0000

Hi all I have a 2007 d4d hilux , I have it in bits ATM because my injectors wer stuffed and leaked and clogged up my oil pick up starving my motor of oil, engine still runs but with a knock , so I'm tryin to clean the oil pick up to see if it may help rid the knock..
If I don't succeed and I don't like my chances of succeeding I'm gonna have to go shopping for a new engine.
So is the anybody out there with any ideas on what motors will fit in there, hopefully bit more horsepower too. Cheers

A crate motor from toyota is about 9500 bucks can get recon ed. Cheaper then that tho. But the Toyota Motor. Comes with new everything. Including injectors and water pump.

Sounds like there is more to the story,
I don't see desiel clogging anything in the oil side
Maybe thin night it out and washing the block to the point where there has been little to no oil

There are a few cheaper checks you can do

But idd start with some fresh cheep oil, just to do a pressure test,
then oil pan off, and head off inspect the inside of the bore, if scratches rebuild
If looks good
Strip it down,
Send the crank to get checked and polished, (around $100) not ground (unless it's bad)
Give the bore a light hone (mostly to deglaze)
Fit new std bearings and rings
You should walk away under $800 with ease
farting is alot like jxxxxxg off. both provide instant gratification, but neither is a long term solution to the actual problem......................

Pistons are likely to be stuffed with that scenario.

It's actually very well documented on here. It's not diesel as such leaking out, it's combustion gases. This gets into the oil and creates thick deposits which in turn blocks the pickup. And from what I've read, by the time the oil pressure light flicks on, it's too late.

Oil starvation, likely cause big end wear??????
New DENSO Injectors are the go! New genuine parts.
Cheers, Anth - Technician - 1KD-FTV

Check your injectors about every 10,000k.
WARNING check oil pickup screen is clear
no chips no tune ups - why increase risk of piston cracking?

Not with blow by. This condition rights off the block. Tears out number one cylinder. Lubrication starvation.
For QLD, there is a guy at Samford, Peter, who is doing a good job on reconditioned blocks.
I think it's $4,800.00 for the unit.
Get onto Matt Bailey from BDG, as he can probably tell you about it.

The same nearly happened to my engine. Found that the oil pickup was becoming blocked and that the original copper injector seals were leaking. The engine has to come out to remove the sump.

Ye mate, bugger of a job.
I don't know why, for the life of me, why Toyota Motor Corporation couldn't use the design they used for the Prados.
It has a section that just unbolts off the sump cover.
Oh, to answer my own question, that's right, it's a commercial vehicle, that's right, what was I thinking.

Bailey's Diesel Group's injector seats are the best on the market. That's the shiny one on the right in the above photograph. They stick like poo to a blanket. And gee, don't they look so beautiful, you can tell they are your savior.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

not that id think its a smart idea but i remember reading somewhere someone noticed their oil pickup screen was blocked, so they used contact cleaner up the drain hole on the sump to squirt the screen to dissolve it, then they flushed the engine with oil 2 or 3 times to clean it all out.

would or is this worth a shot if your pickup was clogged? - not that im willing to try but was just curious to see if it was frowned upon or worth a shot?

I have tried a few things, like that, but with not much success.
BH reckons, he does it this way.
Maybe, the carbon I am dealing with, is pretty well burned into the screen.
On the Prados, I always just remove the sump screen.
Hiluxes are hard going, for me, at least.

Yes I do it like that but I have made some special blowers that blow kero and compressed air along the entire screen. Flush and recheck at 1000 km have not seen a Re blocked one as yet done heaps.

ahh i see, yeah i am just educating myself so in the event i do notice a blocked pickup i can find a easish way to kinda ease the pain of discovering it haha, so you recon kerosene opposed to contact cleaner.

i am guessing carry cleaner would be worse to use in it than contact cleaner?

Kero is much underated for many uses !!

Obviously the high pressure blowing doesn't tend to force some of the crap through the screen ?? Are you able to blow across the screen BH, rather than straight at it ??

This muck must be pretty big granules.

To be ultimately correct there are very small parts of carbon that blocks the screen. And yes the tool has a 45 deg Bend and pick up kero through a ventury. Works very well.

By a degrease gun, the compressed air type, and fill it with kerosene. Those ones that are made in Denmark, are probably best.
Put about 8L into the sump screen through the sump cover hole, and this gets the sump screen clean.
No more lifting engines off it's mounts, for me, with this job. It really does work.
Just make sure you put about 20L of cheap engine oil through, from the top, to flush everything out.
