2005 sr5 with traction control????

Ok my v6 auto 4wd sr 2005 single cab has done this weird thing 3 or 4 times now.

the back wheels spinning in 2wd for a few seconds (5-10) and up near the rev limiter, then bam lose all power, revs drop to 3k and whatever i was doing (once in soft sand, once going up a hill etc) is now impossible and even dangerous in one instance.

my 2.7 manual 2wd 2013 also has done it a cpl of times.. on a wet road wearing out my tyres lol

what is it?
can it be disconnected?
