OEM GPS head unit error

Postby unit_01 on Tue, 23 Sep 2014 11:13 +0000

Hi there,

I've got a genuine Toyota GPS unit in my 05 SR5 hilux and am having issues with the guidance. If I put a destination in and start guidance and I choose not to follow that route at a certain point, the unit doesn't automatically re-route it. It will continue on it's initial route. I can still use it but have to pull over and reset the guidance.

I've gone through the settings but they seem okay, unless I'm missing something???

The head unit is from my old 2010 HIlux SR5 which I removed before selling it, to install into my 05 SR5.

The only wiring I have connected up is the 2 main plugs in the back. When I removed it from the other hilux, there was also a purple/grey wire and green wire with scotch locks on them but I can't remember where they go :?

GPS antenna?

Purple wire I think is speed sense signal which isn't required. But yeah I'm fairly sure these need an external GPS antenna.

Yeah, sorry forgot to mention that. I've got the GPS antenna hooked up and tucked up on the far passenger side under the upper dash cover.

I would try reconnecting every wire that was connected in your 2010 hilux

Near airbag? I would be putting it near the top of the GPS unit or on top of the Speedo for better satellite reception....

Yeah I've moved it to where Toyota had originally installed it which was far passenger corner on top of the dash. This still didn't fix the issue. Further reading shows that I have to connect one of the wires to the vehicle speed sensor which is under the steering wheel somewhere...

Anyone got any idea on which wire it is by any chance?
