Anyone Bought a Waeco CFX50 ? (Lid opens on the side)

Postby The B Man on Thu, 21 Aug 2014 12:08 +0000

The info im after didnt show up in the search function, i did 5 searches and read as least 20 threads.

Hey all, just wondering if anyone has bought a Waeco CFX50? and does it fit in behind the front seats in the dual cab?

Just wondering is its a pain in the ass to open and get stuff out because the lid opens from the side and not the front.

Otherwise is it just worth getting a 40L? Its going to spend most of its time in the back seat area so i dont want it to be a nightmare trying to get stuff in and out of it.

If it doesnt fit im going to have to either get the 40L waeco or Engel. I dont care either way. Does anyone have a noise comparison on them?

Thanks

I have a CF 50 and i think that's the same general size?

All Waecos are side opening , aren't they?

I run my fridge in the back seat when on lads trips (coz i sleep in tray / canopy) , no worries ... usually have to step on the side step and get head/body up in the cabin to get in, but it's by no means hard ... in and out a dozen times per night to pour rums.

Most of the time mine is mounted permanently in the tray / canopy next to a batman window... which is a bit harder to get into, especially for the mrs who has to put foot on top of the tyres and lift herself up ... which is fine as the view from camp is quite nice when she does it.

CF60 would be too tall (or at least you'd nearly be wedging your head against roof) ... to my mind if you go 60L plus, they should be wider / longer but not taller.

btw when i say back seat, the fridge rests its longest side along the seat, opens and shuts forward to back if that makes sense.

Only trouble i have is when the lid opens it does rest on the headrest which is usuallly OK but if the cars on a bit of an angle sometimes the lid will decide to close on me and donk me on the head. no biggie. (same thing happens.

make sure you secure it, can get chucked around if you're driving style is less than sedate.

pretty sure the 60's are the same width / length as the 50's ... just taller ... so if the 65 fits, then OP you should be no worries at all with the 50.

mate, if youre in a shop, just ask them to let you walk out front with it and stick it in the back seat.

(then punch in him the noggon and leg it... just joking).

PS that CFX40 has a different opening system by looks of it (more like an engel where the lid hinges on the narrower side rather than hinging on the longer side) ... which will mean it needs more height to open correctly. Whereas the CFx50 opens "side on" as you know... and means it doesnt need as much upward clearance to fully open the lid.

best thing I have ever invested in is my CFX50 but have never had it in the back seat, could probly mock it up and post pics if you want.

Cuzo4x4 if you have the time and are willing, i would appreciate it.

The one thing i dont like about the Waeco is the crappy plastic temperature control panel. Looks like its just going to get sand and crap stuck under it.

Anyone have any Problems with the control panel before?

never had a problem , there's about 5 CF50's among my mates and some of them get royally abused, covered in sand, left in the sun, ra rah rah.

Anaconda had the cfx 50 for $1100 last week with a free insulated cover..

Or their's this;
http://www.getawaeco.com.au/index.php?c ... w&itemid=5

It's from the main waeco service/department store on the gold coast. They have cheap new and seconds (seconds are mainly just Ex displays) in-store for those on the gold coast. They deliver not sure on price too Perth tho...

I've got the cfx50. Love it. I've got an extracab and it will fit inside the cab, but lives in the tray. I never have trouble getting stuff out and I'm a shorty (5'8").
I think the cfx40 and 50 are the same depth, just a bit wider and longer. And the different lid.
