Provent 200 pvc seperator...

Postby Hellbound on Sun, 04 Dec 2011 4:20 +0000

Gday guys, just seeing if anyone on here has seen or hear about a device called the Provent 200. Very popular device among the 3.0 / 4.2 litre patrol crew on patrol4x4.com site. Basically it goes where the tube that recycles the crankcase vapours back into the inlet tract goes, which puts oily crankcase vapour back through the turbo inlet, then the intercooler then on through into the throttle body, where it then meets the lovely egr system gases and turns this into the sludge that sticks to everything inside there! Everytime i take the intercooler off i get a bit worried about the amount of oil vapour which it looks like is caused by these crankcase vapours going back into the inlet tube before the turbo. Hate to think what this is doing to the engine long term...

This device is made in germany i think and ALOT of people use them but ive never heard of anyone fitting it to a lux here so id thought id throw it out there!

yeah i guess but its about 98% effective, looks almost oem under the bonnet and not all blinged up. It does need a replacement filter very 100k but doesnt rely on steel wool shoved inside a soup can to do the job properly. Most catch cans ive seen vent to the atmosphere with a filter on top i think where this one still maintains a "closed" system like oem.

Anyway i bought one, will get it this week and install and see how much it catches!

These have been quite popular on NewTriton for a while. One additional advantage they have over the catchcan idea is that they have a pressure relief valve built into the side of them. They're a good bit of gear. One of our blokes ran a group buy via western filters and put together a pretty good deal with all the hoses and stuff in a package. Might be worth a quick look over on our side of the fence to check the prices he got?

Provent 200 pvc seperator...

I helped my mate install one recently on his 3l patrol. I will see how it goes and think about it. Not much room under the bonnet in the hilux and an egr plate could resolve most of the issues.

Dont think the egr plate with stop this issue as the oily vapour is coming into the inlet side of the throttle body through the turbo and intercooler, plating the egr inlet would only reduce the gas and not control the oil vapours, could be wrong...

I've got a catch can on the hilux, it vents to atmosphere though and has a small ball valve on the bottom to drain the caught oil. The heat exchanger in the manifold was certainly contaminated with oil vented from the crankcase, now its as clean as a whistle = better heat transfer

This is from the thread linked to above.

Okay, so as many of you may have noticed, I've been organising a group buy for the Pro Vent 200 Catch cans. Here's the deal:

There are 3 kits available:
1. Basic: This is JUST the Pro Vent 200.
2. Deluxe: This is the Pro Vent 200 COMPLETE KIT. (the $299 one on flea-bay).
3. Super Deluxe: This is the same as the complete kit, except it includes the drain hose and drain valve.

Prices for the kits are as follows (including freight to your location):
1. $150
2. $250
3. $265

For this to go ahead, we need a minimum of 10 buyers. I've spoken to western filters, and they are happy to build the kits and send them out from their warehouse in Blacktown. For those who want to pick it up, the price will not change, so you might as well have it arrive at your door.

Easiest way to get in contact is via their ebay store. Ask about a group-buy discount for 10 or more units (thats what I asked for when organising the above). They're easy going, and will organise delivery to individual addresses for you across the country (saves a lot of the leg work).

Besides the unit itself what else is needed to fit it? Do they sell everything needed and are the fittings different for different engines etc?

They do sell a kit but its just standard sized clamps and oil/resistant hoses which you can pick up yourself from pirtek / enzed for much more reasonable prices. Altho the kit cost from the Tritonsite looks pretty attractive given that its delivered to your door for a similiar price....
