Hi, build's looking good, i've definitely been taking note of some of the little things you're doing and will be doing them myself.
Just a quick question, how much did the compressor and twin lockers set you back? I'm just trying to budget for this year and wanting to compare with the prices over here (NZ)

Hi Cam. From memory the list price with installation is about $1700 front, $1500 rear and $400ish for the compressor, get it all done together and you might be able to talk them down a couple of hundred.
If I was doing it again, I would go with the twin compressor, but I’m not unhappy with the single. Not a fan of the stock switches though, they break very easy. Had a door slam and one of the toggles fell off.

Finished panel fitted up with goodies from Air On Board. The switches look and feel great. Needed all the slots so I’ve gone with the round USB charger in the second accessory plug socket.
The Aux power is for a ‘switched accessories’ bypass, so for example I can leave something charging while off for lunch.
I’ve got fog lights in the bullbar, but none of those other lights yet! Oh well it looks the part.

Switches definitely look the goods, any chance you wanna get the dremmel out and out together another one with two same size holes. I’m just about to rewire and change all mine while I’m at it I think.

currently I don’t have lockers. but I like the air compressor switch ! I went with the single arb compressor was told it would be good enough for lockers if I got them ? I hope so !

I’ll have to keep following your build so I can look at how you done your switches

The single air compressor is plenty for the lockers, the reason I would go with the twin if doing it again is about pumping tyres. The 31/10.5 15’s take about 3 minutes each from 11 to 38 psi which isn’t bad, but seems long at inconvenient times.
Definitely recommend lockers though!

Definitely understand what you mean about pumping tyres! but even still I’m generally finished all mine and still have to wait for mates so I guess it’ll be fine for me! haha.

where’s your compressor mounted ?

Haha yeah, when I go with my son I finish mine and end up doing one of his too, he’s got a kickass (brand) compressor. Mine is mounted drivers side under the bonnet, it’s a little tight there with the catch can but at the time was still planning on 2nd battery. Would be good to have remote air outlets so I don’t need to have the bonnet open to air up, but doesn’t rain in Perth much anyway.
Your tray is awesome, with skills like that you won’t have trouble doing cut n shut on a switch panel!

Ah yup ! I’ve mounted mine drivers side under bonnet aswell, but ran a line and outlet to the tray to just plug in when time to pump up. doesn’t stop raining here in VIC makes the high country fun haha.
mates TJM compressor can’t keep up with the ARB, been real interested to know what the 4WD supacenter ones are like.

Hey Crit, looks great. You have done heaps in a short time. Are you happy with the steps and scrub bars? Are they solid enough to use when jacking up the vehicle? I'd like to get sliders or steps but there is the ADR issue and I see OCAM are claiming they are ADR compliant.

Cheers Bloodnut. The progress has slowed significantly lately, too many other things to spend money on. Haven’t tried jacking off the steps but I’d be happy having 4 blokes stand on one. Guess I would go for the chassis unless I couldn’t and really needed to lift from the step. Prob ok near the front but not the back.

Latest mods:
new flip key off eBay, self programmed using the steps on this forum, and cut by local locksmith. Works in the ignition but not the doors or fuel cap. Locksmith reckons it’s cause it’s an eBay key, I think that’s B.S.
Key in beeper - currently camping in Lancelin, the beeper was ruining the Floyd vibe so had to go.

Hey crit,
Exact same thing happened to my new key got it cut and programmed it, worked in the ignition but not the door (I haven't got a key on my fuel cap)
But yeah I took it back and they put a new blank in and cut it again said sometimes it happens

Got the key fixed, new blank cut like you said. The new cut has a different distance from the tip to the first cut which is probably the difference. Bullant Security in Rockingham fixed it, so good on them.

No mods lately, just using and enjoying. Camping at Lancelin for Labour Day long weekend, Jurien Bay for Easter. We live south of the river (Rocko) so for these northern trips we park the car at a friends place in Wanneroo for the day, then catch the train there after work and avoid the arvo city traffic. Reckon it saves 2.5-3 hrs.

Next trip is Esperance, catching up with mates and hunting dragons.

Don’t know how to link from tapatalk, but the thread is called ‘replacement / Spare key programming’ so that should help with the search. Think that thread had eBay links too, can’t find mine. Make sure you get the right ‘type’ - mine had the round dot.

Not a hilux specific mod but still of value ( to me at least!)
Early plans for this patrol box had slide out drawer for the cooker, built in legs and a few other bells and whistles. But weight and size were more compelling, so simplicity won. Plastic drawers and most hardware from Bunnings. Ordered the tee nuts from eBay, Bunnings only had Whitworth (why?). Paint was a miss tint so only $18. Body is 12mm BBB grade marine ply, only $50 a sheet and saved a lot of weight.
Probably going to put a sheet of ally on the drop down surface.

So when I installed the ali frame inside the canopy I replaced the 6 hold down bolts with eye bolts. Bought nylocs but never used them, so over time they worked loose, probably lucky it didn’t do any real damage.
Time to replace the seals.


The side doors have never had a good seal, but only a problem while driving in torrential rain, no worries otherwise. Good job I live in Perth, only 1 or two of them a year. Maybe I could glue some backing rod in?


Few finishing touches on the patrol box, timber trim on front to stiffen, nutserts into the tray for eye bolts and ties downs.
That Ute matting underneath is awesome, any water (leaking esky etc) travels underneath and drains without everything getting wet.
Packed up for camping next weekend.

I love the (lack of) set up and pack down.
Not as flash as Bushbound’s, but works for us.
