2016 Hilux Speed Alert

Postby adamkberger on Fri, 08 Jan 2016 4:33 +0000

I took my Hilux in for it's first service the other day and while there I had Toyota look into my DAB radio not working. It hasn't worked since I bought the car. The technical guru did a factory reset of the touch screen and not long after the Toyota Link was prompting to download an update. After all this, the DAB radio was working. When driving home from the dealership I was travelling at 60km/h entering a 50 km/h zone and a voice came over the speakers telling me I was in a 50 zone. Interesting I thought. Later on, I tested it out by creeping over the speed limit, and sure enough, another voice alert telling me what the speed limit is. I'm interested to know if other SR5 owners have downloaded the Toyota Link update and are experiencing this or is it something Toyota have done in the workshop? I installed the updates in my Yaris, but I'm not getting speed alerts in that car so it could be Hilux specific.

Hi Adam. My DAB is working but I am yet to drive while listening to a DAB station. I'll try tonight.
PS which station were you listening to? I'm also in Melbourne.

Hi Adam,
I did the Toyota link update on my hilux as soon as i got it. (couple weeks before christmas)
havn't had any issues with the DAB.
I havn't had any speed alerts though. Im on the Gold Coast. i did turn on speed camera warning last night and noticed as i came through a 60km zone with a speed camera it kept warning me the speed limit was 50km. kind of annoying but also not a bad thing. least its not the other way around.

Take your car back to Toyota and have them factory reset the touch screen. There is a procedure for doing so and I can't imagine it's common knowledge. The guy that did mine, held something down on the screen for x amount of seconds and then operated the headlights x amount of times and then did something else and it loaded a diagnostic style screen. From there he was able to reset the unit and after all that the DAB stations started to appear. Just so you know, the stations only appear on the 'stations' tab. Once you select a station, you can press the 'presets' tab and save it as a preset.

My Sat Nav no longer gives me speed alerts. I'm not sure what's happened.

So I took mine in, and it turns out the dab antenna was not making contact.

I dug around the satnav settings, and enabled the warnings myself.

slightly off topic, but has anyone managed to get videos working?

having the option to change the start up image and the "screen off" image is also pretty cool.

Can anyone that has managed to get their speed alerts working, can you let me know how to enable it. I am frustrated by the fact that I had it one day and now it's gone. I don't recall having turned it off but I was mucking around with other alerts. I don't see anything in the settings for over speed.

They should have a voice over for the use of mobile phones, especially in Victoria. :D
Especially around Melton shire. :lol:
We watched a truck driver texting on the Ring Road, just after Christmas.

Open Navigation app, go to settings.
Click more
Click settings
Sound And Warnings
(Check verbosity level on Verbose)
Click Driver Support Information settings
(Verify check mark next to Alert Point Warnings)
Click Alert types
Enable check marks next to alerts you want to hear

This should do it, unless there is another setting in conjunction with this, but it is all I adjusted to get it, IIRC.

Hi nicovdw, I have done all that and I do get alerts like approaching rail crossings, school zones, speed and red light cameras and I've even had it tell me to slow done when approaching a speed camera. I am yet to get it back to where it would warn me of my speed regardless of where I was and not just when approaching a camera.
I did notice that when I changed the voice type in the settings, the alerts disappeared and just become a ping. When I changed back the default voice, voice alerts started working again. I think there is a problem with the firmware. Factory resetting seems to fix it but problems occur when you start changing settings. I might go back to Toyota and have it reset again and see what happens.

Not sure if you resolved your DAB not working but I just had some luck with mine. Try pressing the tune up and down buttons together while on the DAB station list. This flicks between the different DAB station lists. When I first got my hilux the list was blank, after pressing the two tune left and right buttons suddenly I got all the ABC/SBS stations, press again and got the standard 92.9 94.5 etc stations. Hope this helps you mate.

I'm in Melbourne and it looks like I'm only getting 9A stations and not the 9B stations.

Amazing, I pressed both tune buttons simultaneously and would you believe it, I now have 9B stations! It would be nice if the manual had instructions for this. I had a very long conversation with my local Toyota dealer regarding this and I don't think they even know about holding the two buttons to access different radio groups.
Anyway, I have since found out how to factory reset the head unit. First, make sure you're not in the shade so that your headlights aren't on. Hold down the audio button and turn the headlights on and off 3 times. The unit will beep 3 times and you'll be presented with this screen;
Image
Once you are here you will need to touch the screen in the corners in the order shown and you will then be presented with this screen;

Once here, hold down the audio button and press the tune left 3 times and then tune right 3 times fast. You will then be presented with this screen;

Touch the button pictured with the arrow and you're on your way. Once done you will need to connect to the unit with Toyota Link to download the updates. By the way, this worked in my 2014 Yaris as well so I would think it's good for all late model Fujitsu Ten head units.

Here's a link to a video of myself performing this procedure https://www.dropbox.com/s/il39en198nypo ... 9.mp4?dl=0

Does the SR headunit have a hack or an option to get digital radio stations? or is this only available on SR5's?
