Rad2085, that is another good solution that people may want to opt for as well. Nice one. :D

Paulandjanine, I am having some technical difficulties getting the photos up on here so PM sent.

These are the photos of my install of this mod with a few instructions. First is the diagram I drew up and the second is the wiring at the ignition switch. The third is the wiring at the relay at the top of the passenger side footwell.

Great job ozsurfer, I may even add this to the To Do list. As anyone that frequents this site can appreciate, it is never ending.

Mate, it is never ending on this site and the leaves of my money tree are disappearing quickly with all the ways to option up the Lux. Thankfully there are a few ideas like the power window mod that cost next to nothing that make life in the Lux all that more pleasuarble. :D

Ozsurfer you are a genius mate, what a great solution to 2 niggling problems!! Took me about an hour or so mainly because of the difficulty of reaching everything and my being badly prepared, but well worth it!!! :D

Wow what read haha some brilliant ideas and development of solutions.
I am also high considering doing this mod to my lux, and by the time i finish it im sure someone will have an even better idea posted on here haha

All fun and games though :D im liking the the ignition buzzer idea :)

Also i'd like to add in this thread or another (not sure whether or not this has been covered) But i had disconnected my buzzer (pull the plug off) cause it was annoying haha. Anyway as it be when i purchased my lux it came with one key :| meaning = i need another key, i got a new one cut and went to toyota to program the new key to the ecu....(this should be a 5 min job) i was there for about 45mins or something with the mechanic both wondering why we couldnt program new key, turns out you need the buzzer plug in then ignition for it to pick up the new key...... :? lesson learnt....

I'm pretty sure I still have the photos on my laptop somewhere so if I can find them again I'll get them back up for you.

I would be very leery of direct wiring the windows to constant voltage. A switch failure can send constant current to a motor which will overheat and burn. I had a faulty switch on my Forester strike when my Mrs was sitting in the car while our little one was sleeping. The car filled with smoke because the switch had failed. When I finally got the motor out of the door I could clearly see there was scorching/burning that had taken place. Of course she panicked, and got out of the car leaving the ignition on, had she turned it off straight away then the motor could have been salvaged. Lesson learned, direct wired power windows could pose a real problem if a switch were to fail closed.

Yeah that's a valid comment. I use this for the convenience of being able to operate the windows whilst the keys are still in the ignition without having to turn the key on and off just too put window up/down. If I leave the vehicle the keys come with me so as soon as keys are removed power from the window relay is also removed.

As an aside, I ended up putting a switch in that replaces the ignition buzzer switch back in circuit when the car goes off to the dealer as I had the same issue with not being able to reflash the ECU. One position takes takes the switch out of play with no buzzer, and the other wires it back to standard with annoying buzzer in circuit. Doesn't change the operation of the windows. I like it the way it is and have been running this way for a few years now but to each their own.

Would this work for the Hilux, and would it install the same way? I'm no electrician.
