Is that the correct injector for an 05 hilux?

Also is there normally other stuff you have to replace when doing the injectors?

I've finally gotten around to filling the tank since replacing the injectors and have done 550Kms, and the gauge is still showing halfway between half and quarter full. Should get at least 700 kms per tank, probably more. A vast improvement over the 500Kms per tank I was getting before.
A guy at work has an SR5 D4D and gets 800 Kms but that disengaging front diff in the SR5 makes a big difference I think.

The really strange thing with this vehicle is the way the economy is the same regardless of whether it's highway driving at 110 K's or just driving through Newcastle traffic to work and back. Again I think the front diff has something to do with this.
Regards Chris.

Since doing mine i get 750kms out of a tank no matter if its highway or city driving.

My question - how does your ECU know to recognize a different injector? It does not have a database or other means for this number. There are some preset differences in timing, volume where an injector is tested and coded. Worst case is not to be as fuel efficient as an optimized set would be.
Read this: http://www.x431ltd.co.uk/website/x431%2 ... amming.pdf
The coding would be more for record purposes my 2c worth! :D

Jengel, not sure what you're asking or saying...no offence.
The way I understand the process is that by entering each new injectors unique 30 digit code into the ECU, and telling it which cylinder it is installed to, the ECU can more accurately compensate for the production tolerances inherent in each one.
As you say, the ECU has no data base, you aren't telling it what type of injector is installed, you're telling the ECU what the compensation values are for each injector. So I guess you are correct, worst case scenario for not programming is rough running, especially at idle, and less than optimum fuel economy. According to West End Diesel in Sydney, they have had customers drive in from all over the place with new injectors fitted to have them coded. Some run perfect, as mine did, and some run rough.

Noidea...yes my new injectors are the "DLC (diamond-like-carbon coating)" type.
I haven't mentioned it before, but a prerequisite to installing these DLC type injectors is having the reflash performed before the injectors are installed. Not sure why but both my Toyota dealer and the Denso dealer told me this, and there was a note inside the box with each new injector saying the same thing, including the relevant Toyota service news number for the reflash.

Ive had the reflash done only about 4 months ago to try and dull the rattle during winter. It just adds more fuel wen the engines cold apparently. So if this is the reflash your talking about then yes ive done it.

Hmmmm decisions decisions. I take it everyone who has installed these injectors has had a much better fuel economy from doing so?

So what do we do if we have the 05 Hilux which can not be reflashed?

Best bet is to ring either Sydney Diesel Service (02 9681 7700) or West End Diesel (02 9757 2100) for an informed answer, both these companies are really on the ball with this stuff.

I take it you didnt change your driving style or where you were driving just simply putting these injectors in has made this difference? Im trying to weigh up the expenditure against the potential fuel savings. If they are worth the hype ill grab a set.

On a side note, the guy at suncityspares i spoke to today said they dont need to be coded into the ecu as long as they are matched correctly with your vin number. Is this correct? Has anyone had problems with them not being coded??

Called westend diesel today as they had not replied to my email and the number is actually 0297572100, still waiting on a reply from them though.

got a call back today, and quoted $2255 post to Darwin. they said that the injectors they send for a 05 hilux are different to the later models, and that we cant re-flash the earlier d4ds, i am still not sure, but have to make my mind up soon as my hilux is starting to run warmer, got to 90 degrees just cruising along at 110km/hr on a flat road, which isn't normal, it normally sits on less then 86 all the time.

Cheers Darren

I found that the new injectors made it get more out of a tank, When my old man sold it to me it was only doing 600-650 out of a tank now after doing the injectors it does 750.

Yeah apparently they can get you ones which have the identical code as the ones already in your hilux therefore you dont need to recode the ecu. I didnt know anything about this and just bought a set of him without the vin and got them programmed when installed.

Who programmed them mate?? Ive been doing alot of ringing around etc and im finding this is blowing out a little bit in cost as westend want to do pipes and filters and coolant etc etc.

For those of you who have put these in yourself did you change your fuel pipes?? Because they are supposed to be single use only. Is this a rule or more of a guide? I only ask because all this extra stuff they say needs to be done when fitting the new injectors is almost doubling the cost of the injectors themselves..

I could install the new ones myself easily but I dont want to worry about leaking fuel from the pipes or anything else taht could come up.

Thanks for any help

EDIT: so star city spares who sell these injectors said they can put them in and they dont need coding as they are "open" and the ecu can read them?? well they can install them using the original fuel pipes etc just changing the injectors for just over 1800 so theres about a grand difference in price between the two..

Decisions decisions.. Anyone with feedback from either would be grealty helpful.

The mechanic I am getting to do mine up here in Darwin (mobile auto care) has been talking to westend diesel after I told him about them as he is looking at doing his own hilux too, and he was told by them that the fuel pipes don't have to be changed but some do leak and get damaged so they recommend changing them.

If they were going to leak it would be straight away wouldnt it. Im just trying to justify the extra grand for a fuel filter, fuel pipe and a few gaskets.

These pipes are solid as they have to withstand the 1600Mpa the rail pressure is. The problem is they dismantle difficult and easily get damaged at the seal ends and hence leak. If you work carefully and not use force or tools, you might be lucky.
Chris, I think your version of the code recognition is more accurate as the 32 digit can indicate certain tolerances to the ECU and hence allow more even fuel injection in the engine.
